New Alien Movie is a Prequel

It may just be splitting hairs out of apprehension, but it doesn't say anywhere in that interview it's planned for 2010, so is Tony talking about the end of this year here? I suppose there's no way they could put the movie together that fast though is there?

I think he meant that they were going to start shooting the movie at the end of 2009.

SOME prequels have been good (Batman Begins, Casino Royale, Star Trek) so I'll try and keep an open mind. Isn't easy though.

This is . . . terrible . . . At least with the prequel we knew the worst we could get was some crappy, non-canonical stuff. Now, though, it's canon, and who knows WHAT we'll get. This movie could scar the entire franchise. We'll probably see the alien homeplanet, Space Jockeys, humans finding out about them, ArGh! My HeAd Is GoInG tO eXpLoDe!!!

They can always use a time travelling Ripley and still have Sigourney Weaver appear in the prequel.... like the way Old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) was featured in the latest Star Trek.

Other way round IMO. It could make up all sorts of crap as a backstory for Alien. A decent sequel or reboot could just ignore the previous films altogether.

I could get behind a sequel. Remake/reboot, hell no. You can't top Alien for what it is, don't even bother trying. I'd rather an unnecessary prequel than watch people try to "improve" a film that doesn't need improvement.

True, I suppose. Maybe, rather than unnecessary, this could be decent, or prequel only in terms of set before Alien, and doesn't try and effect the series in any way? If so, there is a chance it could be good.

Great news. I'm more excited about this project than the Predator reboot.

Not for me I'm afraid, but ti is good news. If done right as I said above, this could be ok. Then again, the same has to apply for Predators, if its a sequel (an Arnie cameo would make it appear so), then I'd be uber-interested.

I'm a bit excited now and not too worry since this movie might give us some good histroy behind the Xeno histroy like the Spacejokey.

Tony Scott has some solid titles underneath his directing belt, but I see no reason to get behind this film just yet. I don't think a prequel is necessary because it will take away even more mystery from the Alien mythos. Do we really want to know where the Space Jockey came from?

You can't do a sequel to Alien Resurrection.

A movie between Aliens and A3 would perfectly fine. Almost all of the comics and novels are based during this time.

Hm, I doubt you could make a 2 hr long film out of that. If we're going to make a film about what happened in between, then I'd rather get a short film like Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena.
