The Pipes on an Alien's Back?

What do you think they are used for?

I've always thought it was for breathing.

and other i dont remember, i dont really think theyr for carrying eggs..................

I doubt it's breathing because the Runner had none and I would have thought the Runner would have needed more oxygen/air/whatever.

Giger said he gave them the pipes for balance, because of the elongated head. Hence the Dog Alien having no pipes/spikes, as it is a four legged creature and not so top heavy, and doesn't need to support the head as much.

I also heard of Giger it was for balance, the runner spends most time running so it didnt need them.

For the sake of anatomy,The pipes serve a more meaningfull purpose than just being a counterweight.thats like saying that the trunk of an elephant keeps the animals head in balance..  Come on folks   ..Keiros had many great theories that make more sense from the first avp galaxy site..too bad those topics were abandoned..I remember well; because I have a very clear memory like a elephant . .

I just dont see what has to be so special about them, they might just be nothing, its like why do chickens have wings but they dont fly or why do bats have eyes but they cant see. 

i all know is that they were put there to help balance the actor's head and to stop the actor from falling over forward when looking down.

I always considered the runner to be a 'second generation' creature, one whose facehugger gestated from an egg that was previously human as per the original breeding cycle. This means the runner would be more adapted to an oxygenated environment and wouldnt need the enhanced breathing aparatus.

Men have nipples because they start out life as a female, then develope the male reproductive organs later. If human evolution is allowed to run its correct course, eventually the nipples will completely disappear on the male torso to be replaced by the second thumb below the pinky.

I'll throw stuff up on the board as we go along. Even though I've archived a great deal of my original material (Many thanks, Darkness) I hate the lacklustre effort of just cutting and pasting.
