Yes, but when you realise that death brings absolutely no kind of penalty whatsoever (in fact it can be quite handy), the BD's imposing nature just vanishes.

I think its chapter 9 when you enter the Valor. There are like these bursts of energy where you have to walk behind these objects using telekinesis to move them. I have no idea what to do though.
