It's okay. I actually managed to make myself finish it. It's an okay game, but for me it never went beyond that.

Like, for me the things that I love are the concept, the characters, I love the lack of ammo and how far Naughty Dog tried to go to make it a survival horror game, and the story, but f**k me I'd rather be watching it than playing it. It really feels like Naughty Dog as much as I love them was trying to make a movie and then half way thrush developement went: "shit f**k this is supposed to be a game."

Plus it's pretty boring after a while when you realize it's walk through hallways, make Ellie pick up a latter, cutscene, fight, walk, walk, walk, cutscene, fight repeat for the next 12 to 15 hours.

Pretty much summed up all of my complaints. Except the story. It was kind of just a 12 hour excuse to make you do an escort quest. I think it could have been better if Ellie was slightly less grating on my nerves and more useful in combat

Gonna start the new Tomb Raider tonight.

Enjoy it, it's a really solid game. Curse Microsoft for buying timed exclusivity rights on the sequel though :'(

I'm looking forward to it! Gotta love Black Friday sales. What do you mean by timed exclusivity rights?

The thing that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a timed exclusive on xone

this basically, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an XOne/X360 exclusive for an undisclosed amount of time before going to PC/Playstaion

comes out holiday 2015 on Xbox, and some time later on everything else. no one has confirmed the duration of the exclusivity.

It's a fun game. As someone who wasn't previously a Tomb Raider fan, they sure did pull me in. Although there was one itty bitty issue I had with it, but I wont say because it's kind of a spoiler.

Alien: Isolation

If this was about 10 hours shorter and featured approximately 75% less door opening QTEs, then it would have been perfect.

But for now it's merely the best Alien-related game out there. I had a (gruelling) blast playing it.

You still are not TR fan. The new TR is NOT a TR game  Play TR: Anniversary and if you love it you can call yourself a TR fan  ;)

Minecraft

Console edition got a huuuge update and I decided to check out the new stuff. I spent a lot of time with the horses, donkeys and mules, I also worked with stuff like name tags, hoppers, stained clay, beacons and so on. Of all the new stuff I was not only looking forward to getting horses but also hoppers for new redstone builds, in fact I already made a coloured wool farm, implementing the hoppers. I plan on using hoppers more in the future for an improved elevator design and for other kinds of farms.

I'm with you. the new TR game is defintiely a TR game, it's got everything TR games have always had. Traversal, shooting stuff, and archaeology centred plot. what else is there?

There's no raiding tombs. All "tombs" take less than 5 mins to complete. The game is basically run n gun lol CoD fans we did that for ya come buy the game. The game is 0% TR experience. Did you ever played any other TR game? The new TR tries somehow to compete with Uncharted but it fails because all Uncharted games are still better in every gameplay aspect - better shooting mechanics, better level design and level layout. The new TR is not a bad game but its not TR game and its not Uncharted either.

And no it doesn't have anything that the other TR games had. In those games there are jump puzzles where you can get stuck for an hour trying to figure out what to do. Did you experienced this in the new TR? Of course not. Everything is straight forward as 2D sidescroller.

I felt like the new Tomb Raider had much better and more variety in traversal than Uncharted, which just consisted of climbing walls. TR has all sorts of interesting traversal features and that's what tomb raider has always been about, traversal puzzles. Although, to be honest I really only played the first few PS1 era TR games, (on PC though), maybe the later games changed the formula. Aside from a few segments around the middle and latter half of the game, the shanty town and the burning temple perhaps, most of the game was not a run-and-gun CoD game, even those segments were more akin to cover based shooters such as Uncharted (and it's no bad thing to aspire to be like Uncharted) as opposed to run-and-gun shooters, and stealth is a bigger part of the game than shooting, more so than Uncharted which has next to no stealth.

As for the tombs being quick. yeah sure, but they were not the main story, at least they thought to actually put some tomb raiding in. the actual main story does have you going through all sorts of tomb like places anyway! If you focus just on those side tombs then yeah sure, they were short, but they were still fun.

Getting stuck for an hour trying to do a jumping puzzle is not and never was "fun". sure you get a sense of achievement when you get over it, but those kinds of things don't make a game good, and if a modern game had puzzles like that in, it would get ripped to shreds by critics
