It was said in the entry conditions that Fox owns all of the material produced, much like any film they make. It also said they had final say over the edit.
Yes. What I'm getting around to is this: how "official" is this cut? Is it for private viewing only, not intended for the public? If Fox release an official compilation of all 6 films, will Noah expect that his extended version be included instead of his 12:24 original? If so, maybe all the other teams would like the opportunity to recut their films too.
One of the first things I noted was that all the films overshot their 9 min. max running time, some by a little, some by a lot. So it's obvious everyone had difficulty making a sub-9 minute story. If Fox/Tongal do this again (maybe
Aliens 35th anniversary, 2021?
) I hope they extend the running time to more like 15 to 20 minutes. (Along with a commensurate boost in budget.)
Of course all the producer/director/editor teams ignored the running time stipulation anyway, but even so they would have all felt pressure to keep whittling their edits further and further back, possibly even beyond what they felt was good for the storytelling.
I think only
Specimen was a good fit for its 10:24 running time, for what its story had to say. To me, the others felt like they suffered a bit from having chunks of story missing.
