My friend and i are both big fans of the series.

The original is my favourite, after that comes part 5 from Hopkins.

I havent seen them in a long time though, but i remember that i very much liked part 5.

Second one had nothing in common with the first. The stuff that Freddy did in it was weird too. Feels completely unconnected with the rest of the series.

New Nightmare - I think it's a well-made movie but when you set it in real-life with real actors, you know the franchise is over. Sorta like what Seed of Chucky did. Same problem. If i was just rating movies for the sake of it, I'd give it a higher score but I would never consider it canon or part of the series. That's why I think the whole thing was pointless.

I think it all came down to Craven's anger at the rest of the series, I know he hates Freddy's Dead with a passion. He at least made Freddy scary again and didn't make him a crack-pot joker.

2 sucks because Freddy is like trying to find himself as a horror icon, and it isnt until 3 that he finds his niche, killing bimbos in their dreams instead of posessing them.

I didn't mind 2, it showed that Freddy would try any and everything to get into the real world. The story at least wasn't as bad as part 5.

Side step here but what do you think of his design in New Nightmare? I love it, it's my favourite. Broad face, long rain coat, big boots and sketetal claws. Great.

I like it for what it is, but it is not the Feddy I know and love. New Nightmare's Freddy is a much more deep rooted individual, no longer a haunted soul but fear incarnate and his look works for that purpose. Now, if Freddy looked like that just for the sake of a makeover, I would be really peeved.
