Hi all, I'm Lozza and I'm 26. This is a long one but want to share my experience with like minded fans and the journey I had to becoming one.

I was exposed to the universes of Alien and Predator at a young age through the PC games AVP and AVP2, I use to watch my bothers and dad play from behind their chair and when I was a little older I braved the Predator campaigns but still crapped myself but was able to complete them. I could barley touch the marine campaign on AVP2 I was too afraid.

When the Quadrilogy came out I remember my mum picking it up when at a Tesco, the box freaked me the F out and I remember mum and dad inviting my sister and husband round and they all sat down with my older brothers too and watched Aliens. They said I could watch it too, the menu freaked me out so I went to bed being able to hear the movie and it scared me half to death.

Some time later, mum got AVP on DVD and when I had the courage to ask her "Can I watch it?" And she said yes I thought "This is it, brave it. You like the cool predators from the games." I open the case and it's a face hugger disc, it scared me to death because it was horrific and looked like a spider. So I didn't watch it then.

I eventually watched both the AVP films, and really enjoyed them because I was watching these two horror icons that scared me to death but grew the courage to watch them and I was a kid or was watching something I wasn't supposed but was allowed by my parents. When AVPR came out my dad brought the 2disc SE and I watch the bonus features because I liked to do that with the Star Wars prequels, but these had snippets of the alien and predator movies and I was watching this stuff I thinking this seems so cool and convincing myself that if I can watch these snippets I can watch the real deal. I couldn't.

Some more time, I get AVP 2010. Love it. I'm in my xbox gaming prime in middle school and feeling like the cool kid playing this game my friends wouldn't. I grew up in a house where my family all knew Alien and Predator but no one else I ever talked to did and for years it felt like I knew this niche thing and could only talk about it with my one of brothers. He said I could watch them with him because he knew I wanted to. I watched everything starting with predator then the alien films when the blu ray collection came out. I loved it.

I was lucky enough to see both Prometheus and Covenant at the cinema with my dad and really enjoyed them.

Quick fire now so you know where I stand but this is all my opinion:

Alien 3 is a misunderstood masterpiece and is not only a great film but when viewed as a trilogy the best of the original three as a final act.

Alien Isolation is the best representation of the xeno across the movies and the games I've played. With the new movie coming I think it could also be made into a film but most definitely needs a sequel.

The AVP pc games need to come to console with multiplayer.

Covenant was a truly bone chilling experience and the ending with David is one of the most horrifying ends in film. I also think whilst I would love a sequel to this film, the fact that we don't have one really hammers home the unsettling ending.

There needs to be AVP revival in both game and movies, it could easily be an alternate Universe situation.

To end because this has gone on long  enough, I'm incredibly excited for the new Alien movie and think it could be the scariest alien film we've ever got.

I would love to talk more, if anyone wants to pick my brain please do as I'll talk for hours, message me if you like for more direct conversation. Never be apart of a form but been using the website since in middle school.

You made it this far, thank you for your time!

Buying Alien dvd in Tesco, you must be British then. 🤣
I've done the same.

Everything you said about alien 3 is correct, the only question remaining is...theatrical or assembly cut?

Quote from: TheDerelict on Mar 23, 2024, 04:23:24 AMEveryone one calls it "the engineer ship" or "the space jockey ship." But there was a time, long before the adventures of Elizabeth and friends, that when talking about the alien ship in Alien, it was just called The Derelict.
No one seems to call it that anymore.
Simpler times.

I'm with Ridley Scott on this one and still call it the croissant. 🥐

I respectfully disagree sir,

The nightmarish designs of Giger deserve more respect than to be described alongside the flaky, fluffy final product of yeast risen dough.

Welcome all new members! 😃 I am *loving* the influx of new Alien 3 fans here!! (It's my personal second fave after the original regardless of which cut, and I've long said is a misunderstood masterpiece, regardless of production issues / studio interference). Happy to see it getting more recognition here on the boards! 😃

UK here also (fun fact; my hometown was the filming location for the beach of Fury 161)

@Corporal Hicks - just thinking on the above post /out loud; but any chance of emblems for the boards? (i.e. something like Order 937, Squad 426, Cult 161, etc (that sort of thing, with titles collectively voted by members) so members can easily find "their people"? 😄

Well I was at least comparing it to one of those nice croissants. Not the rubbish kind.

I'm not shooting down, as ultimately would depend on the software and Darkness, but what would that be in regards to? Just displaying a favourite film?

Speaking of pilgrimages. I went to the old man of Storr in the Isle of Skye a few months after they filmed that scene there for Prometheus. It was summer then and it was busy with tourists.
But in November of 2013 I had a bit of a mental health breakdown and one day I got in my car from west London and just drove north. After a couple of days I ended back up in Scotland and went to the Isle of Skye again.
This time the old man of storr was deserted. I was the only one there. It was overcast and gloomy and I had Prometheus on my iPod. So I sat there and watched it.
Was really peaceful.
One of the reasons why I love that film.
Never told anyone that before. 🫤

Yes, just your fave vibe really :-) The movies in this franchise are so varied in style and atmosphere, and  I had noticed that whenever certain movies in the franchise are brought up in topic, it quickly becomes a debate on "how bad they are" with people keen to voice what they *don't* like - not just for Alien 3 and Resurrection, I see a lot of it with the prequel discussions too😅 Whilst it's great to debate these things, (and the diversity of opinions in threads are what makes this group so great, with everyone being attracted to the franchise for different reasons) I thought perhaps it might also be nice to sometimes engage more with those "in the same crowd / similar mindset" - there's a friend list option, and I don't think I've utilised it yet, mainly because we see all of our regular posters in all the threads daily anyway. The idea was just a display signal to others, to gravitate towards discussing more of what you love, as opposed to defending what you love.. 😅 that sorta thing really. Think of it like having a slytherin  or hufflepuff symbol next to your name (whatever those are, I don't do Harry Potter 🤣 first analogy could think  of, lol)

I will easy join the cult of 161.

Hello, is this thing on? I'm zoza, finally decided to make an account here after lurking for a long time!

I'm more of an Alien fan than Predator, but still love them all. Not a fan of the AVP movies, but I love the AVP comics! I love Alien the most. I actually adore all of the Alien films. I think every Alien film is good, some more than others, but I don't think any are bad. Currently reading "the Cold Forge" for the first time and really enjoying it.

I love Alien, and everything about it, from the aesthetics to the very real commentary of unfettered capitalism and the exploration of pure nihilism in a space setting. I'm a very passionate fan!
Looking forward to chatting with all of you.

Welcome! Always nice to see a lurker emerge from the shadows! Unless your a lurker from ACM!  Good shout on the Cold Forge, easily one of the best pieces of fiction the Alien franchise has to offer. It's one of my top 5 novels.
