These aliens seem to age very slowly. So I think you're right. He probably was already a veteran during that time. And I bet he was like 1% younger.  :P

He was ~900 in ROTJ when he died.  In TESB, he said he'd trained Jedi for 800 of those years.

Sounds like it would be more odd if Yoda isn't in this thing.  That doesn't mean he has to be the focus, however.

Hell! almost 1,000 years as a master :o

So Yoda looked like a child when he started training Jedi ??? I mean, Baby Yoda is 50 years old but is just a baby.

I wonder if he was the second in charge at the high Jedi council 200 years prior TPM..kinda like Mace Windu in the prequels.

I can only assume that Yoda's species undergoes a rapid maturation between their 50th and 100th birthdays.  It's also possible that prepubescent Yoda was such a prodigy with the Force that he was capable of becoming a Jedi and training others early on in his overall lifespan.

We just don't know either way.

It sound possible. Especially If they want to avoid retconning.

Now that you mention it, I could see that very thing being depicted in future seasons of The Mandalorian...
