The conflict in Mexico is indeed a shitty one, if you read a newspaper after the credits (taking place years later), you'll find in the newspaper that yet another civil war is brewing because the new leader (Abrahem Reyes) is just as much an asshole as the last leader that was overthrown in the last war you were in the middle of. But there was at least old gunslinger legends like Landon Ricketts to offer hope to the folks he was around, from both the soldiers of a tyrant and Mexican bandits, the old Ben Kenobi of the Wild West who gives you "a real gun" (the Schofield revolver) and trains you in gun slinging which leads to your dead eye skill becoming 3/3 (100%). Landon was the best thing about the trip to Mexico.
