In response to the ISIS threat, Germany is sending rifles, anti-tank weapons and armoured fighting vehicles to the Kurdish fighters of Iraq to aid them in the fight against the ISIS. This is following Britain, France and the U.S doing the same.

The Peshmerga, or Kurdish fighters, helped the U.S in their mission to capture Saddam Hussain and fought along side U.S troops, and played a big role in the eventual bringing down of Osama bin Laden. They have proven to be an effective force that protects all ethnicities and they include women in their ranks.
The German Foreign Minister spoke of a hope that the new Iraqi government would seek to bring together all ethnic and religious groups, including the Sunni minority, to fight against the extremist ISIS.
