Thank you for reminding me how much I hate Chris Cornell's nauseous tomcat vocals, Spoonman.

Well I never went to Iraq so it doesn't have quite the same effect it has on those guys that were there multiple times.  I can't say I'm surprised.  We left too early and still put older people who believe in sectarian rule in charge.

Also the Shia military is only really giving up ground in majority Sunni cities, once they get to Baghdad the fight will be much harder for them.

When we leave Afghanistan the exact same thing will happen there.

It takes more than a decade to change somebody's way of thinking.  If outside influence wasn't an issue you'd stay and brainwash the younger generation until they were old enough to be in charge and put country and not tribe first.  But that will never happen.

However it ends it won't be good for the US.  ISIS rolls on and Iran will jump the border to crush them leading to an even stronger Iran because it will now have a buffer state.  ISIS is repelled but not pushed out could lead to an Iraq that is divided into three different countries.

It is a mess.

Truthflly the only way I think it could be saved the way we want it to be saved is to put troops back on the ground and that will never happen.

I don't see that happening, either.  It's sad to see what is happening to the Iraqi military  :-\

I have a friend who was one of the first to enter Iraq, and he just holds out his hand and shakes his head if anyone asks his thoughts.

The Kentucky National Guard send most of its soldiers to Iraq multiple times so their facebook feeds lately have been pretty depressing.

They destroyed something beautiful!  :'( This was one of the best things about Japan and now they ruined the country.
