nothing worse than lyrics to express yourself.
100% agreed.
So does that mean that people who write and sing the lyrics shouldn't do that and just let the songs all be instrumental?
Of course not. It's just an opinion.

Deep purple: Sometimes I Fell Like Screaming

Only this part:
(The) back street dolls
and the side door johnnies
The wide eyed boys with their bags full of
money
Back in the alley
going bang to the wall
Tied to the tail
of a midnight crawl
Heaven wouldn't be
so high I know
if the times gone by
hadn't been so low
The best laid plans
come apart at the seams
and shatter all my dreams

Why do you need lyrics to express yourself? It is enough that you have the music.

Because music is not always enough. The lyrics help you understand yourself better. At least that's how I feel towards it.

Lyrics are just words that sound good with the melody. I love classics and retro music from the 50's til the 80's. Jazz is deep. Really deep.

Lyrics are not just words that go with the melody, lyrics also speak to you. I can't tell you how many songs i've heard that basically speak what I feel. Melodies can say that, sure I won't deny that, but you're wrong by saying that they're just words that sound good with the melody.

Only a few songs have that.

My mood is constantly changing every day, so what song I listen to depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm feeling energetic, I'll listed to something by Slipknot or by Disturbed. If I'm feeling chilled out, Pink Floyd or Miles Davis. If I'm feeling depressed, Rob Dougan or The Smashing Pumpkins. If I'm feeling rebellious, RAtM or Rise Against. Always changes.

You just haven't been listening.

Maybe. But the songs that I listen to don't really need lyrics, but your right, lyrics can also express your inner self.

At this exact moment this is how I am f**king feeling.

A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won?t set you free.
So you say.

We?ll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
?we?ll give you everything and more,
The strain?s too much, can?t take much more.?
Oh, I?ve walked on water, run through fire,
Can?t seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else.

The guy who wrote the lyrics is dead. How cheery is that?

Everyone dies at some point.
Even when hanging themself shortly before their band's scheduled first American tour.
