Yeah that's my thinking. I bet that scene happens and then we get another 5-10 minute chase/climax (AND THEN the reported "twist" ending).

Let's not forget a tremendous amount of work and detail went into Prometheus, much of it for quick shots or things you wouldn't notice unless you froze the screen and studied it. I'm sure the same is true for this film.

It's a shame, especially for a Ridley film, because he's the prince of detail. But there's rarely justification to not spare those dramatic minutes.

Has anyone seen Deepwater Horizon? I'm curious because production designer Chris Seagers is also responsible for Covenant.

Deepwater Horizon - Very good production design in my opinion.
Its a real event movie, but a design and interior of oil platform
was very good. Pretty tense movie.
