I'm not convinced about the Hot Toys Ripley, it's a DOLL. It's even got clothes for god sake! - Barbie would be jealous.

And please, McFarlane's figures suck when it comes to Hot Toys. Try comparing their 12" Scar Predator and 12" Grid Alien to the Hot Toys versions and you'll see that Hot Toys kicks the crap out of them.

And I prefer articulation AND detail, over just plain detail, no articulation and being stuck in a crappy pose that looks awkward when you try to move it.

Yeah McFarlane's Grid is not the best and I have to admit the Hot Toys Grid does look the better but AVP sucked and so do the Models. as for looking awkward, that's down to the designers to pick a good pose, the overall look of McFarlane's models I prefer - I don't like seeing the elbow joints and leg joints that the Hot Toys Models always have, it makes them look like TOYS rather than models.

the term "action figure" started with the 12" gi joe in the 60's. they created the term to differentiate it from "dolls". so technically, hot toys (or any other sixth scale collectibles) are closer to "action figures" than anything else out there. i always thought the mcfarlane figures were the best, until i had money to buy hot toys figures, and the mcfarlanes quickly got sold. the nice thing about 1/6 scale stuff is that the joints are easy to hide - you don't really notice them in person with so much going on besides just sculpted plastic. some people complain the hot toys avp predators are out of proportion... man, they should take a look at the mcfarlane one. its just more about tastes, i guess. i look for more of a mini prop-replica, rather than a statue. hot toys stuff (esp. in the USCM case) are a lot more screen accurate, well proportioned, and detailed and because of the mixed media, seem a lot more "real". i don't know - they're all dolls - who gives a shit? some of my buddies use a loufa and body wash. seems gay as hell to me. i don't care.
