the term "action figure" started with the 12" gi joe in the 60's. they created the term to differentiate it from "dolls". so technically, hot toys (or any other sixth scale collectibles) are closer to "action figures" than anything else out there. i always thought the mcfarlane figures were the best, until i had money to buy hot toys figures, and the mcfarlanes quickly got sold. the nice thing about 1/6 scale stuff is that the joints are easy to hide - you don't really notice them in person with so much going on besides just sculpted plastic. some people complain the hot toys avp predators are out of proportion... man, they should take a look at the mcfarlane one. its just more about tastes, i guess. i look for more of a mini prop-replica, rather than a statue. hot toys stuff (esp. in the USCM case) are a lot more screen accurate, well proportioned, and detailed and because of the mixed media, seem a lot more "real". i don't know - they're all dolls - who gives a shit? some of my buddies use a loufa and body wash. seems gay as hell to me. i don't care.
