I reinstalled this, a few weeks ago and was really taken aback by how beautiful it is. Think it must have had some graphical updates since I originally played it.

Well, the games Texture's do scale to your Graphics Cards memory. But yeah, Shogun 2 looks far prettier than Rome II/ Attila. I think it's due to the Japanese style
