I would have prefered a film about fugitive to be honest.

It was fine.

Humans take substances to increase muscle size and performance all the time. Stands to reason there are predators who would do the same.

But the plot was shite and the concept was wasted. Would've been fun in a good predator movie though.

Local Trouble

I don't pay much attention to Predator lore, but did this upgraded predator get his superpowers after injecting some autism?

Nah that was his next achievement level I think.

I know we're supposed to care for the kid but honestly they should've let the Upgrade get away with it.

All upgrade Predators get Rory's autism, including his magically disappearing hypersensitivity to sound. Predators can no longer hunt as they're unable to deal with interstellar travel, shoulder cannons, or the amplified sounds from their other upgrades.

And can only occasionally interact with their hunting dogs.

You cannot see the eyes of the demon, cos he finds eye contact uncomfortable.

lmao, that's gold. Although in the movie it was super autism tbf. Upgrade probably would just have become Rain man and destroyed everyone on earth.

I suppose, Upgrade was going to adopt only Rory's "useful" genes  - not authism as a whole

C'mon, it's movie, it's sci-fi and it's very advanced extraterrestrial civilisation with spaceships and energy weapom. It's not that much of a stretch to guess Predators can do that

Yes, it is. At that point they aren't harvesting his autism, they're just f**king around with him.

Actually, you know what? It's perfectly in keeping with the message of the film itself -- people with autism are useful so long as they don't have any of the negative aspects of autism.

Local Trouble

I wonder how proud Shane Black is of himself for what he believes was his positive representation of autism.  After all, it is the next step in human evolution.

I think they really thought they were trying to portray autism in a positive light. It just ended up being stupidly simplistic.

A friend of mine is a psychologist specialising in childhood autism and boy was she impressed by the film.
