Construction begins on arena for Gladiator 2 in Morocco as extras reveal behind-the-scenes secrets about Russell Crowe from the original film.

A giant arena has begun to be built, which will feature in Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Gladiator 2.

A round wooden structure was visible being built into the dunes, resembling the amphitheater from the first film.

Paul Mescal was reported to be joining the sequel in January, with Denzel Washington and Barry Keoghan also signing on in unspecified roles.

Paramount has already issued a November 22, 2024 release date for the sequel, though it's unclear when filming may begin

Yeah, and looks like exactly the same spot as well.

Not so keen on the film retreading old ground again, the Roman Empire was vast, would be nice to see some new and exotic locations like Gaul or Britannia. 

Still hoping for an epic, mega-budget naumachia scene.

I hear that young fella Paul is a good dude, I wish him the best of luck with it. I think where they're picking the story up is with young Lucus stepping into the role of Emperor.

Meanwhile, Washington has another highly anticipated project in the works -- the actor will star in Ridley Scott's sequel to his Oscar Best Picture winner, Gladiator, for Paramount.

Washington's role is being kept under wraps.

When asked about the film, Washington shares that he's "on my way to Gladiator land."

"I'm in that gym lifting weights every day, training, getting ready," he adds.
