QuotePlatoon Sergeant for Echo Company's 1st Rifle Platoon, Herrera directs her fireteams from a Tactical Operations center aboard a dropship or APC.Rank: Staff Sergeant (E-6)MOS: 0369 Infantry Unit LeaderDate of Birth: March 30, 2178Place of Birth: El Cobre, CubaSERVICE RECORDHerrera enlisted at Recruiting Station Santiago de Cuba in 2195, and trained at MCRD Isla San José, Panama. Her scores were average, but her leadership qualities were quickly noted. Initially a ringleader for unit troublemakers (particularly AJSP inductees), she was chosen as Platoon Guide by Drill Instructor Zalman, and held responsible for ensuring none of her unit washed out. None did.Though skilled in mechanical maintenance, Herrera declined service in a support unit, and was assigned to a line unit in the 37th MEU, aboard the Bougainville-class Attack Transport UAS Améthyste. Though Améthyste's battle group was deployed in response to several provocations by the UPP during 2196 and '97, no combat occurred. Her second tour was with the 35th MEU aboard the Tientsin-class Assault Ship UAS Humaitá. Herrera's unit responded to xenomorph outbreaks on sixteen Outer Rim colonies and outposts, four of which ultimately required orbital sterilization protocols. Her actions clearing the hive at Colegio Santa Rosa de Lima on Amaru (HD 40307 g6) were recognized with a Marine Commendation Medal. However, Herrera's performance declined after this operation, and a number of off-duty incidents occurred.Upon returning to port, she served a six month garrison stint at Kuat ASFB on Surier (Delta Pavonis d), during which she voluntarily participated in an outpatient program run by the Veterans Administration. After her fitness was re-certified, she returned to fleet duty in 2201, assigned to the newly organized 33rd Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Division. Her battalion was ultimately assigned to the 40th MEU aboard UAS Endeavor.ESTHER'S OBSERVATIONSStaff Sergeant Herrera's father ran an auto repair shop, and she was expected to assist him in the garage from a young age. However, it is a standing joke in Echo Company that she possesses a "technology death field" that makes lights burn out and computers lock up when she walks by.Herrera and Lieutenant Ko run a revolving poker tournament on weekends. The rifle companies and aerospace squadron are particularly fierce rivals. Colonel Shipp has seen no reason to curtail this activity.

QuoteThe commander of Echo Company, Santos is a "mustang" officer who earned a battlefield commission. A grizzled veteran, he's seen more service than his rank suggests.Rank: First Lieutenant (O-2)MOS: 0302 Infantry OfficerDate of Birth: November 27, 2166Place of Birth: Salvador, Bahia, BrazilService RecordSantos was inducted under the Alternate Judicial Service Program (AJSP) in 2183 and was trained at MCRD Val de Cães, Brazil. He completed his required enlistment in 2195, and his criminal records from civilian life have been expunged from all government databases. In 2184 Santos was assigned to the 29th Colonial Marine Regiment and served aboard the Conestoga-class Attack Transport USS Montauk during the Frontier War. Montauk was part of the relief expedition to LV-038 (61 Cygni). The colony was destroyed by an unknown "bioweapon of mass destruction," an act initially blamed on the Union of Progressive Peoples. His unit, expecting combat with UPP ground forces, found itself heavily engaged with non-human foes. The 29th Marines suffered 84% casualties during the ground campaign. The survivors were rotated back to the Core Systems for unit reconstitution, but the Frontier War concluded before they could return to the front lines. In 2188, following passage of the Colonial Protection Act, Santos was reassigned to the 21st Marine Regiment as part of the 28th MEU, stationed aboard the Bougainville-class USS Inchon. Deployed to the Borodino Sector as part of the United Americas Outer Rim Defense Force, his unit was assigned to gauge UPP compliance with the terms of the ceasefire.Beginning in 2190 the UAORDF responded to a growing number of xenomorph outbreaks across settled space, spreading Spinward from Reticuli. During his deployment, Santos led Marines against xenomorphs on two colonies and five outposts, leading with distinction from the front lines and earning a Bronze Star for Valor at Agüeybaná (70 Virginis b3) in 2191.At Agüeybaná, Santos suffered acid scalding across the face and torso, and was sent to Chinook GSO (70 Ophiuchi A V) for three months of convalescence and rehabilitation. As Santos was still four years short of fulfilling his AJSP commitment, he was given the choice of returning to active duty or serving the remaining time in jail. Again, he chose the Marines.Second Tour of DutyIn 2192 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and assigned to the 37th Marine Regiment on Crestus Beta, which spent two uneventful years on garrison duty. His weapons platoon was noted for exemplary performance during maneuvers, credited to Santos' efficiency as Platoon Sergeant.Having exceeded all expectations placed on him at Crestus Beta, Santos requested transfer back to a fleet unit in 2194. His new billet was 3rd Battalion, 42nd Colonial Marine Regiment. Staging out of the Solomons (Alpha Caeli Vg) aboard the Bougainville-class UAS Attu, the 42nd responded to dozens of xenomorph infestations on the "tail" of the American Arm.This tour concluded with the debacle at Cabrakan (HR 810 b14) in 2198. Left in an exposed position by Weyland-Yutani corporate security forces, the UAS Attu was destroyed and the command staff of First Sergeant Santos' company wiped out. He rallied the survivors, organized a defense, and held seventeen hours until relieved by 1st Battalion, 44th Marines, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Olivia Shipp. For his actions on Cabrakan, Santos was awarded with a Silver Star for Valor and a battlefield commission. After extraction, debriefing, and withdrawal of the 42nd Marines' survivors, Santos was given two options. With his AJSB commitment fulfilled, he could retire with an honorable discharge and his record cleared. Alternately, Lieutenant Colonel Shipp nominated him for Officers Candidate School. After completing OCS, Santos spent a year at Colonial Marines Headquarters Sol, O'Neill Station. When the (newly promoted) Colonel Olivia Shipp was assigned to take command of the 33rd Marine Regiment, she requested him.As the most experienced junior officer in the battalion, Santos is assigned to lead the least inexperienced platoon of "boots." He also serves as the executive officer of Echo Company.Esther's ObservationsNot all of Lieutenant Santos' scars are from xenomorphs. As a teen in the slums, he joined a gang to survive, and attained some level of local fame as a street fighter. He did not learn to read until boot camp, and still tends to read aloud. He writes every night to his husband on Thedus, claiming "it's good practice."When he was a squad leader, he pooled his Marines' rations on Sunday mornings to make a "family'' breakfast. He encourages his sergeants to do the same aboard UAS Endeavor. He joined the Marines to avoid being sentenced to hard labor in an Amazon prison camp. However, when given the option to retire after injury at Agüeybaná, he chose the Marines again - not to avoid prison, but because he felt he was doing something important. He is a fan of futebol (soccer) and shares a good-natured team rivalry with Corporal Savane. Santos is one of the few people in the battalion who converses casually with his CMISRS analyst.
QuoteMEET THE CREW: DR. TIMOTHY HOENIKKERA xenoarchaeologist employed by Weyland-Yutani at the LV-895 site. Though unprepared and ill-suited, he survived an uncontrolled xenomorph outbreak.Employer: Weyland-Yutani CorporationPosition: Staff Consultant, Pala StationDate of Birth: June 7, 2172Place of Birth: Brooklyn, New York, United StatesEMPLOYMENT RECORDHoenikker attended Weyland University, Mars Campus, through grants, some due to his own ability and others charitable donations (he was orphaned by a house fire). He chose the school for its controversial "xenoarcheology" degree program. His admissions essay claimed he was inspired as a child by finding a collection of two-century old books in his grandparents' attic, a series that discussed vanished human civilizations.Though no evidence of technological non-human civilization has ever been confirmed, Weyland University has offered degree programs in "xenoarcheology" for over a century. (Rumor holds that the program was a condition of Sir Peter Weyland's endowment to the school.)Hoenikker completed his Bachelor's degree in 2193, his Masters in 2195, and his Doctorate in 2199. In the course of his studies he participated in working archeological digs in the Andes Mountains and Rajasthan Desert, and simulated exoplanetary digs on Mars, Titan, and Europa. His dissertation was an analysis of Polynesian migration patterns as applied to exoplanetary conditions and interstellar exploration. Polynesian culture has long been considered an appropriate human analogy to a truly interstellar society; Hoenikker focused on identifying what resources might be required by non-human societies, based on known examples of alien biospheres. This allowed him to suggest a narrow range of non-habitable worlds and sites that might have been sought and used as resource-replenishing waystations during long interstellar journeys. In 2200, he was hired by Landmark Historical Consulting, Inc. to survey for and assess any pre-contact ruins in the path of planned railway expansions in Magdalena Department, Colombia. Human Resources records indicate Hoenikker did not fit well into the company culture, which incentivized rapid and positive recommendations. His year-long contract was not renewed.Subsequently, he applied to Weyland-Yutani (through Weyland University contacts) and gained an office job in the Artifact Cataloguing Department. While there, he was approached for a lucrative colonial contracting position, cataloguing artifacts on the Outer Rim. After considering his options, he signed on, and departed Gateway GSO in October of 2101.ESTHER'S OBSERVATIONSThe supposed artifact-cataloguing position Weyland-Yutani offered Dr. Hoenikker was false data, inserted into corporate databases to disguise the location and nature of the work at Pala Station on LV-895.Shortly before UAS Endeavor's departure from O'Neill Station, the government of Colombia announced that Landmark Historical Consulting - Dr. Hoenikker's former employer - faced prosecution for destroying evidence of multiple archeological sites. These ruins were subsequently bulldozed by private infrastructure development contractors who paid kickbacks to LHC for clean permits.Though he has repeatedly denied it, he is exhibiting signs of post-traumatic stress. This is not uncommon in survivors of high-casualty xenomorph outbreak. In Dr. Hoenikker's case, it seems focused around his experiences with a specific experiment.
QuoteMEET THE CREW: SSGT PARK HAN-JAEOperating Echo Company's armory and fabrication unit aboard UAS Endeavor, Park can provide any equipment you want. If he doesn't have it, he knows who does... and how to "tactically acquire" it.Rank: Staff Sergeant (E-6)Primary MOS: 0431 Logistics/Embarkation SpecialistSecondary MOS: 2161 Fabrication OperatorDate of Birth: February 13, 2174Place of Birth: Gateway Station, GSOSERVICE RECORDPark was inducted under the Alternate Judicial Service Program (AJSP) in 2192, at age 18. He completed his required enlistment in 2196, and his criminal records from civilian life have been expunged from all government databases. He attended boot camp at MCRD Fort Matthewson, Hellas Planitia. Unlike other station-born enlistees, Park had no difficulties with agoraphobia. His scores during Freefall Maneuvers training set records, which he credited to spending extended periods in the service areas of Gateway Station during his formative years. His first tour of duty was aboard the USS Chimborazo as part of Logistical Squadron 33, supporting forces in the Borodino Sector. As part of this deployment, Park spent a total of 1,048 days on deep-space active duty without hypersleep, and participated in 119 UNREP operations. His second tour was on UAS Pisagua, a Bougainville-class Attack Transport. During his deployment, Pisagua rendered humanitarian assistance to Gaston Colony at HD 202206, which suffered extensive damage from a seismic event in June 2198.At Gaston, Park earned a commendation for his efficient and effective logistical deployments, which were credited with saving hundreds of lives in the barrio districts during the first week of relief operations. However, he was given a formal warning for allegedly organizing unsanctioned salvage operations at the exurban estates of corporate executives.Park has a Class 1 rating in power loader operations.ESTHER'S OBSERVATIONSStaff Sergeant Park has a photographic memory and can quickly comprehend multi-variable systems. He demonstrates a working memory of where every consumable is stowed, its mass and volume, and how it all must be load-balanced for FTL.However, he has consistently failed to document his personal practices for the benefit of his peers and subordinates. This has hampered his career. In ten years, he has been disciplined twice for Falsification of the Chain of Custody, and five times for Unauthorized Usage or Modification of Government Equipment.Though his time in service and time in grade make him eligible for promotion to Gunnery Sergeant, he has not completed the required PME courses, and shows little interest in doing so.

QuoteThe liaison between Echo Company and Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service (CMISRS), Savane cheerfully provides as much information as his superiors clear for distribution.Rank: Corporal (E-4)MOS: 0239 Intelligence AnalystDate of Birth: October 11, 2179Place of Birth: Touba, SenegalSERVICE RECORDSavane enlisted at the Monrovia Embassy Recruiting Station in Liberia, and trained at MCRD Val de Cães, Brazil. His marksmanship and fitness scores were unremarkable, but his mental agility and observational skills proved exceptional. In field exercises, he showed an uncanny ability to discern OPFOR intentions with limited data.Upon graduation, he was requested by Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service (CMISRS).He spent his first two years performing data analysis at Fort Brimmicombe-Wood on Georgia (70 Ophiuchi A V). During this period, he cross-trained into UAV operation. His achievements are classified, but upon completion of his posting, he was granted the opportunity to choose his next assignment. He chose front line duty, as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit.Savane has a Class 1 rating in reconnaissance UAV operation, and a Class 2 rating in hunter-killer UAVs.ESTHER'S OBSERVATIONSRelations between CMISRS operators and line Marines are often strained. Officially, Corporal Savane's department exists to support and assist line companies. However, CMISRS staff officers have the authority to usurp command of field units in extreme circumstances. He has struggled to earn the trust of the platoon he is assigned to advise. He has a curious mind and learned to operate UAVs as a means to work in the field. He fulfills recon objectives quickly so he has time to "sightsee" on alien worlds. This occasionally yields valuable intelligence, as when he discovered a supply dead-drop for UPP infiltration teams on [REDACTED].He is a passionate fan of football (soccer), despite match broadcasts being delayed by weeks or months on the Frontier. CMISRS operators are forbidden from participating in betting pools, but one of his "pet projects" is monitoring the pools run by fellow Marines and analyzing trends.
QuoteMEET THE CREW: ESTHER 1089-12/A7The battalion synthetic aboard UAS Endeavor, capable of operating the entire ship and responding to scientific, technical, and psychological queries – all at the same time, if circumstances require.Rank: NoneMOS: 6673 Automated Information Systems (AIS) OperatorIncept Date: June 6, 2172Manufactory: Weyland-Yutani of Eko Atlantic International Commerce CityMODEL HISTORYThe Esther model synthetic was developed in the early 2170s and manufactured contemporaneously with the Bishop until the early 2180s. Both models were designed to operate information support systems, perform electronic warfare, and serve as a general purpose scientific advisor for Colonial Marine units.Unit integration debriefings with early Bishops suggested that psychological support and counseling software packages would be a useful addition – they were often seen by their peers as impartial sounding boards. This functionality was patched into some Bishops after deployment and resulted in a series of dedicated psychologist models supplied to the Veterans Administration. The software was bundled into Esthers from their initial release. As high-sapient synthetics, Esthers work with their assigned ship's MU/TH/UR computer to monitor and maintain systems while humans spend long FTL transits in cryogenic hypersleep.SELF-ASSESSMENTWhile I am an early production model, I have been given extensive hardware upgrades to match the modern seventh generation spec.As my runtimes have been active for over two decades, they have settled into distinct patterns of operation, perceived by my unit as a "personality." Esthers are designed to shift mannerisms and speech based on how others react, but my long uptime has made my own ability... deficient compared to more recent inceptions.I enjoy the study of piano and violin. Since I can replicate the motions of others flawlessly, I have been told my playing is "soulless." While the battalion is in hypersleep, I practice - not to get notes correct, but to get them wrong. It is important to me that I develop subtle imperfections to make my performance seem more human. I have been studying the Japanese aesthetic concept of "wabi-sabi" to further my progress.
