Looks like this new Alien movie is definitely happening. Collider caught up with Ridley Scott’s brother, Tony Scott. He confirmed what Bloody-Disgusting revealed a few days ago. Carl Rinsch is going to direct a prequel to Alien.
Collider: 20th Century Fox is talking about remaking or redoing the original Alien. What’s going on with that?
Tony Scott: Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.
He also says he expects shooting to begin before the end of the year. You can check out some of Carl Rinsch’s commercials on /Film. Some of them do look pretty good. Thanks to Dusk and Coolness Cool for the news.

MTV Movies Blog spoke to Sigourney Weaver recently about a potential Alien 5 movie. Interestingly this time, she mentioned that Fox had a script written by Joss Whedon (Alien Resurrection, Buffy) and that it took place on Earth.
“”You know, Fox was going to do another one,” Sigourney Weaver said to us recently while accepting Ripley’s honor. “They had it written. Joss Whedon wrote it.” As Weaver remembered it, however, the script from the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mastermind just didn’t rock her world. “It took place on earth,” she explained. “Which, I have to say, just really didn’t interest me. And I just felt that every time we went out there, we needed to have a really original piece.”
Which is a shame, because Weaver said that at the time she was perfectly willing to take on the Aliens once again. “I was all for going back to the original planet; I thought that would be interesting,” she explained. “But I was alone in that; we couldn’t really agree on what would be interesting.”"
She goes on to say that she feels the Alien series isn’t finished and that she’d do another one if they had the right script. If Joss Whedon wrote a script, it must have been a long time ago, before James Cameron started writing his script. Thanks to JK for the news.

Following up on Weaver’s recent idea of having an Alien 5 without any Aliens, MovieHole has just released a little article after they got the chance to talk to Weaver:
“And, you know, I don’t think we have a deep, pressing need to finish the saga although it does definitely feel unfinished to me. And I think if I wanted to go and have a meeting with Jim about it, I’m sure he’d be game”.
Usual stuff really. As expected she also takes the chance to slag off the recent AvP movies (that’s our lass :amuse: ). But to quote Dreamcatcher, “same shit, different day”. Read the whole thing at MovieHole. Thanks to DazAvP85 for the news.

MTV Movies has been talking to Mrs Weaver and as usual she reveals that her and Ridley Scott have been talking about an Alien 5. Again. But this time it’s a little different:
““What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”
An Alien film without Aliens? I know it’s always been about Ripley but…Well, I’ll let you make your own minds up about it. Read the whole thing here. Thanks to Xenomorphine for the news.

It seems the last few months, we’ve been hearing more news about Alien 5 than AvP3. There’s a news report on IMDB where Sigourney Weaver has mentioned Alien 5:
And the star isn’t ruling out a return to the big screen for another Alien film – insisting no one else could take on the role. She says, “I would feel very weird if they brought her (Ripley) back and cast someone else.” But the actress insists she will only take on projects if the plotline works: “I don’t care whether the budget is big or small, or if it’s a lead role or not. If the story’s good, I’m there.”
With James Cameron tied up with Avatar and Ridley Scott directing a couple of movies, I don’t think we’ll be getting Alien 5 for a long time.

There’s another interesting article on Den of Geek where they’ve analysed the past several years and attempt to answer whether or not Alien 5 will ever be made.
“And yet that hasn’t stopped speculation, rumour, and occasional hints of substance from circulating. Because Alien 5, ideally, would see either Ridley Scott or James Cameron returning to the series. It could explore the alien homeworld. It could see an alien visit Earth (done properly, although Sigourney Weaver in particular isn’t keen). There’s so much of the backstory of these creatures that’s not been explored, and plenty of places the franchise could go.”
It’s a very good article even if it’s just fan speculation. They mention towards the end that a Ripley-less movie is a potential direction for the franchise to go. That it could be a prequel of sorts. That’s been my preference too for many years. Thanks to Darkoo for the news.

For those of us in the UK, check out this Radio Broadcast on iPlayer. There’s an interview with Sigourney Weaver if you fast forward to 2:33:00 where she talks about her new movie Wall-E. Go to 2:38:15 and she talks about the Alien movies. Here’s the transcript of the main comments:
Sigourney: “The reason why I don’t think there’ll be another Alien is that there are all these Alien vs Predator movies that I think have taken the rather elegant, mysterious creature and made him less so. We could have gone back to space to the original planet where the aliens were from but now everything’s about the whole Alien vs Predator thing.”
Interviewer: “Yeah, they’re a little less subtle aren’t they than the original concept, I think.”
Sigourney: “I think Ridley Scott would probably agree with you.”
She hit the nail on the head, I think. :lipsrsealed: She goes on to talk a little more about the Alien series in general and what it meant to her. Thanks to WisePredator for the news.

There’s a small article over on OK! which says actress Sigourney Weaver is considering resurrecting the Ripley character and wants to do Alien 5 with Ridley Scott.
“The Hollywood actress is considering resurrecting her most famous character – shaven-headed, muscle-bound Alien heroine Ellen Ripley.
“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea,” she says of the classic sci-fi movie franchise. “Ridley is enthusiastic about it.”
It’s definitely positive this time. It’s a real shame that the likes of James Cameron or Ridley Scott are unable to persuade Fox to make this movie. Thanks to wmmvrrvrrmm for the news.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Sigourney Weaver about a potential Alien 5 movie. There’s a new report over on MTV Movies Blog where Sigourney mentioned Alien 5 and the Ripley character.
“The last time [Ridley and I] saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting [and] I’d love to work with Ridley again,” Weaver said, raising our hopes to their absolute apex before immediately dashing them against the rocks of reality. “But Fox has effectively killed it because of ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from. “To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating,” she added. “[But] let [Ripley] rest.”
I agree with her about AvP killing any chance of Alien 5. That’s what the series did to both franchises if you ask me. I wonder if she’s seen AvP2 yet. Thanks to JK for the news.

ShockTillYouDrop.com had a chance to interview ADI’s Tom Woodruff which will be posted later. They did post a small piece about what Tom thought about the future of the franchises. He’s interested in Alien 5 and AvP3.
“My hopes, as a creature designer and as a fan, would be ideally to continue on whatever storyline it is the Alien versus Predator takes us in because there’s certainly a wide open book at this point,” Woodruff says. “But in addition to that, I’d still like to explore the future world of Alien 5, what’s the next step of that story? It’s such an unresolved story and there are so many opportunities for characters and great storytelling. As well as Predator, both of those are open-ended stories and AvP has taken the center line combining those stories, but I think there’s plenty of room for three very distinct story takes on those characters.”
