An Alien Prequel?

So we have another article, saying the same thing? Big surprise, I know. But I’ll post it up regardless. IESB.net has posted up a short article where they’d talked to Rothman:

“There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.”

So if Ridley’s interested Fox has the door open to him. Sounds like they’re quite desperate for him in fact. But the idea of a prequel…? We’ll see. Thanks to Darkoo for the news.

    nooooooooooooo,don't make it a prequel make it a sequel if its a sequel then i think it would be better and it will not be good without sigourney weaver and james cameron and ridely scott but if there is no way then okk   :(

    I really hope this won't be a prequel.  Because then, they're going to try to explain the Pilot.  And I can't think of any way that any director (even Scott) or writer could possibly pull that off without it being utter balls.    Then again, assuming they do go ahead with this and attempt to explain the Pilot and his(her?) origins, they had better bloody well not refer to it as a "space jockey"or I'm actually going scream and rage.

    Prequel's must  Stop!!!   ever sence the starwars  did it everyone has come on think up something new to come up with i mean even in your  Prequel you seem to come up with something new that dont even tie in with the flims all ready made come now think up something fresh.

    o.k. Carnalcalligraphy, even though i already read it, i think it will be time for me/us to see really a "Alien" 'Prequel' after all. i'll wait on news sooner or later on Ridley Scott and come back to avpgalaxy.net for more info and see if he'll do it, and he will do it, even though he'll have the  movie consider it done.

    I don't care whast anybody says, I think it would be great to have the original director back. Ridley would work wonders under any conditions, and -lets face it- Fox will give him anything he wants. I'm noty a god fearing man, but I am praying tonight for an Alien prequel.

    you're right, JD. why would we need another Alien prequel or reboot? even though the story about the derelict ship and the jockeys and the aliens themselves were there a long time. if we need to know the story, how about reading "Aliens: Original Sin"? it explains everything of all 3 stories: the Derelict ship, the Space Jockeys and last but not least the Aliens. Right from Call she knows.

    Technically, we don't, because they're not canon and for all anyone knows, it could just as easily have been a building, rather than ship. the original concept was even for it to have been a ship which had docked onto a much more ancient silo, built by an even older advanced species (perhaps one of the reasons why the dimensions are much larger than the external 'hull' would allow for).  Ultimately, though, there's no reason to give an explanation. Just explore some new stories.  There is no reason there could not be an identical situation on a different world.

    FFS we DONT need a Prequel, if you want to know what the space jockey is, or what he did before he crashed read Aliens: Book 1, its all in there. We dont need a movie to tell us this because we already know what happened.

    ROTHMAN SCREWS UP AGAIN THE IDIOT .START AT THE END OF ALIENS AND KEEP THE CHARACTERS IN THE NEXT FILM AND CONTINUE THE STORY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.IF ROTHMAN HAS ANY DOUBTS READ THE DARK HORSE COMICS.IF NOT DO NEWTS STORY AS TO HOW THE COLONY WAS OVERUN   ???

    I this is true about Fox wanting to do an Alien prequel and having the great Ridley Scott who directed the masterpiece of 1979's classic ALIEN. I like to actually see the space jockeys and see what was their "relations" to the aliens were they weapons that they created using genetic engineering or did they find them on LV-426. those are what i like to see or the beginning of Weyland-Yutani being in the movie of how they learned of the transmission of the derelict from Alien. Now if Fox does do Alien prequel and getting Ridley Scott to come and direct the movie he should get H.R. Giger back to design everything that has to do with the Alien and its enviroment like Giger did in the first Alien movie and dont get the dumb ADI their designs of the aliens are horrible. i prefer Giger's work than those idiots at ADI.   I also want to wish Alien its happy anniversary of 30th great years and its anniversary date is May 25th!!! same day that Star Wars: Episode 4 was released back in 1977!!    ;D     :)     ;)     8)     8)     ;D

      8)   i'm so happy to hear that Rid is planning a ALIEN PREQUEL before Ripley and that we really don't need: saying again and again - Sigourney at all...this is all  about the SJ and the creatures and it leads to Alien 1. i would like to wait for the whole set of the ALIEN franchise with the "Alien Reboot". This doesn't include Sig and her character "Ripley".

A prequel to Alien could serve to explain the origins of the derelict, the space jockey and, perish the thought, follow the comic that involved the space jockey. And its old mate Ridley!

    No. Nonononononono.Don't do this. Not only it would kill the little mistery the specie has left, but an Alien movie without Ripley would just just take out the series identity.  But I see how Rothman must be desperate for this as Fox is having bad run besides killing every single genre franchise it owns.

    I prefer that theres comformation from FOX. also, if its true. and a prequel is gonna be made, I hope the original Alien design is used, and I hope H.R. Giger comes back. we don't need any more of ADI's crappy designs.

I know its alien franchise but a prequel to what??? __________  the origin of weyland yuntani maybe the birth of the planet frm aliens or the space jockeys the origin of the alien's themselves in some ways it could be avp3 but without the predators it could carry on, story wise frm AVP:R but tell the begining, would require a some good writing but hey ridley is a genieus. for instane we could see a predator ship but we dnt actually see them so it could link the jockeys to the predators, because of what we saw in AVP:R on the pred homeworld.  Just have to wait and see what happens.

    I agree with some comments the mystery of not knowing is the one of the reason's alien 1979 is an amazing film, so maybe a prequel is a bad move.   However if ridley scott is behind it, im all up for it! I think they should make alien 5 aka 'Alien Evolution' & continue the series & of course have ridley involved    :)   seeing as they are moving on with the predator franchise with the 'reboot' 'Predators' maybe carryin on with alien series mite be the best move. I guesse we will have to wait & see folks!

    With it being the 30th anniversary of the original, plus the forthcoming Blu-ray release, I wouldn't be surprised if this is what got talk going again within Fox.  I hope it happens as I think Ridley Scott is a great director. He certainly knows how to make a good looking film if nothing else.

    A prequel would be BAD!  The ship which crashed happened like a million years ago, the skeleton turned into bones and fossils, so there would be no story to it.

    What more can they do other than explain the jockey aspect? Either this film will contain no humans at all, and be all Jockeys, or some other team of humans will foolishly enter the derelict.

    Why a prequel?  What happened before Alien that we need to see?  I thought most fans agreed that the Space Jockeys should be left a mystery and that's about the only backstory Alien had.  ...Personally, I think it could possibly be fun to see the overtaking of LV-426 in detail.  Otherwise, take the series forward.  I can't see anything we need to go backwards for.

    This sure is interesting. They can show how the aliens and space jockeys are connected, and show the incident that ruined the derelict in the first movie! :D I certainly approve of this idea! :D

    Yes.  Yes.  YES!  I hope this news is real because I have wanted this ever since the second movie ended.  I have said over and over again that a prequel -- a genesis story, an origin story, etc. -- would be the shot in the arm this series needs.  Where did the Alien come from?  Where did the Space Jockey come from?  Are they from one and the same place?  And what is the Space Jockey, after all?  Where was he taking the ship?  Why was the Space Jockey race harvesting all those eggs?  If this movie does happen...with Ridley Scott at the helm...that's about as good as you could hope for.  I really hope this proves to be true.
