Ridley Scott’s latest science-fiction film, The Martian, was recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival where Ridley Scott was interviewed by Deadline. We’ve recently heard that Prometheus 2 was Scott’s next film. Scott confirmed to Deadline that Prometheus 2 would be starting production in February 2016 and he also talked a little about the plot of Prometheus 2:
“You can either say, leave the first film alone and jump ahead, but you can’t because it ends on too specific a plot sentence as she says, I want to go where they came from, I don’t want to go back to where I came from. I thought the subtext of that film was a bit florid and grandiose, but it asks a good question: who created us? I don’t think we are here by accident. I find it otherwise hard to believe you and I are sitting here at this table, because the molecular miracles that would have had to occur were in the trillions, since the first sign of human life that crawled out of the mud with four fingers, would bloody well be impossible, unless there was some guidance system. Also, you have the sun approximately the same distance from earth as it is from maybe millions of planets and planetoids that are almost identical distance and therefore enjoy the value of sunlight on their soil. Are you telling me there are no other planets with human life? I simply don’t believe it.”
The interview also talks a lot about Ridley Scott’s work on science-fiction, discussing Alien, Blade-Runner, Prometheus and of course, his upcoming film with Matt Damon, The Martian. Thanks to The Perfect Organism for the news.
And you have my sympathies.
Aliens 1986 - Alien3 1992= 6 years
Alien3 1992 - A:R 1997 = 5 years
...etc
If you ask me, the longer the better. Haha!
Yeah, but they still need to recover from the box office loss of the first one as well. And then Fox still needs to finance Cameron's ultra expensive Avatar sequels, Predator 4, Prometheus 2, Wolverine 3, another Planet of the Apes sequel, Assassin's Creed, X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool to name but a few.
Lots on their plate.
But the problem is Predator 4 also scheduled for a 2017 relase and thats a 30 th anniversary of Predator so Fox is in a serious delay.Prometheus should be out next year, i think Scott would shoot this year as he finished the editing of The Martian this march.
How Scott mentioned we havent seen the big guy made me curious about the movie finally. This "guy" really could be the enginier of the enginiers the Space Jockey.I always thought Prometheus is retconned Alien a bit with the Jockey becomes this small almost human sized Enginiers, but if we get the real Jockey that logical problem could be solved.Maybe Prom 2 finishes on Lv 426 with another chestburster scene ..than will be even harder to wait a year for A5.
Okay, I'm going to finish work in an hour from now. I'll go check it out.
Delay could likely be due to funding, even the mighty Fox can't just pull out $130 - 150 million in cash from out of nowhere and they already have quite a few films in the pipeline.
His office is located in West 5th Avenue, Vancouver, just down the road from Image Engine, his preferred visual effects house.
Also, some input on the topic. AvP Requiem was also filmed here in Vancouver, it seems to be turning in a slight trend for Alien movies.
If they start shooting Prom 2 im february it could wrap in april or mid may as we know Scott like to shoot fast his movies. So if Blomkamp's Alien 5 start shooting in june or august its still in time for a next summer relase..so i cant see whats the point with a year delay..they in pre production from march which was 6 month ago, and if they start filming next august/sept that amount of time could be enough for a director to finish script and prepping. The most biggest problem is our leadig heroes Weaver and Biehn are getting older and a year delay is not good for Weaver 66 ,Biehn 59.They will star in their legendary roles in a sci-fi action movie! Where is a respect to them if they have to wait for Prom 2 to be a succes? And what if its not?
By the way i like the interview with Ridley Scott just cant see whats the point of a possible delay.
Relase Prometheus 2 in March 2017 and Alien 5 in July or November,2017.
It occurred to me shortly after posting.
Toronto and Vancouver is basically "Hollywood North" so they have the infrastructure. Blomkamp lives in Vancouver so he'll probably drop by if they are going to film there.

That would be nice. Perhaps I could disguise myself as a bush and sneak in there.
Well the interview was conducted at the Toronto Film Festival, so when Ridley said "here", he was referring to Toronto, Canada as a possible shooting location along with Oz.
If they are the ones who stole the fire was it to use for themselves to give to us ? or were they just testing the fire on us ? Are we the testing ground - a refinement laboratory for their improvement ? Like OK buys we now see where the problem . Reset the whole thing and let's try again.
I thought though that the Engineers on Lv223 WERE the representation of the Prometheus legend. They are a splinter group who stole and misused technology.....
Hoping they have made efforts to take on feedback and criticism and do this one right!
ALIEN is a fiction, about some unlucky workers in deep space that run into the most impossibly deadly creature ever conceived in science fiction. The whole franchise deals with this fictitious species as a threat to humanity and the story of Ripley in her unwanted quest to destroy them. Prometheus sets out to define the mysterious [Space Jockey] creature seen in ALIEN and where they fit into the plot. Both are nonhuman threats created to pose a challenge to humanity in the events that unfold in their respective films. Why does Sir Ridley Scott, who is known for such incredible films, feel the need to insert these notions of human origins in the Prometheus series? To me, it is a complete distraction to the plot and a pointless argument for the characters.
I really love Ultramorph's comment. I too would love a return to the Giger-eske style of the first film. I feel that ALIEN leaves the most lasting impact out of all 4 (soon 5) films due to literally everything from aesthetic to music score, costume design to set design, literally everything, including the unanswered mysteries of the film. I never felt like "we need to do a reverse flowchart so everything can be explained."
One man's opinion...
I'd say so, the script has been complete for a while now, Ridley has been scouting locations and I'm guessing/hoping a lot of the unused designs from the first film will be working there way into the sequel.
At least I can relax now its going to happen - they say there is no such thing as bad publicity. I hope I have done my bit to promote the movie. Prometheus is known now and likely it will do better than Prometheus say around $600 million. I wonder if they will have the same marketing campaign as they did with Prometheus. Is it specifically principal photography that will start in February ??
Well I thought he was suggesting the movie will be exploring who their creators were. That's what I took him to mean by the quote I posted above.
Great news though.
Shouldn't they have reached the singularity eons ago ??
"You've got to go back and find those engineers and see what they are thinking. If engineers are the forerunners of us, and therefore were creators of life forms in places that were possible for biology to function, who created that? Where's the big boy?"
Please be to Jesus that we get the real true Jockey in Prometheus 2! I'd be so happy!
And it will either be shot in Blighty (probably Pinewood) or Oz (Fox studios in Sydney or the outback perhaps?)
