The marines besides O'Neil, Bella and Cruz are redshirts - they are placed there to die. The 3 main chars are not with you all the time (as I already said).

if that so...than its avp yet again...lamelamelamelame with 0 story, with 0 character development, i wanna get to know the others, i want to feel sorry for the rest of the battallion, so lame, all about graphic and massacre...

They can't reasonably develop an entire battalion of characters. Smaller number of main characters keep it focused. And the level I played I always had a squadmate with me and the developer led demo also always had another character there.

at least they could make an MP mode based on those team mechanics, escape mode + specialists in which every player has to play a part to go to the next section and the marines would fail if the tech guy, smartgunner or medic died when they need him the most.

I guess that's better than nothing.

Still wished the game was more of a squad-based game with somewhat distinct classes...
Rifleman, Smartgunner, Comm-Tech and Medic. The Rifleman being able to carry a second firearm aside from the pulse rifle and the pistol. The Smartgunner is "stuck" with the Smartgun and all that it has to offer (also carries a pistol), whereas the Comm-Tech and the Medic pack pulse rifles and pistols, and instead of a second firearm they carry one Motion Detector each. The Comm-Tech is also equipped with a hacking device and assembles and primes Sentry Guns faster than other classes. The Medic's special equipment is a medikit and a fire extinguisher (which can be used both to extinguish fires a well as somewhat neutralizing acid on the ground/floor). Medics and Comm-Techs may exchange their pulse rifle for a shotgun, flame unit etc. (but no heavy weapons), but they may not carry both. All marines are equipped with flares, flashlights, IR vision, blowtorches and hand grenades. Then you have ranking... privates and corporals etc.

Aw well, it's never gonna happen.

There are no AI marines with you. GBX made separate co-op chars because you don't play as Cruz, O'Neil and Bella in co-op - they just appear from time to time and you are not all together all the time.

That's funny because the campaign demos show plenty of AI marines around with you throughout various parts of the story, with dialogue and everything. There will be moments when you are alone though. Which is a good thing.  :P

I'm glad they ditched the squad based gameplay.

Wait, what?! They removed this from the campaign?!

Originally it was going to be squad command gameplay where you control 4 different characters at once, giving them orders and switching between them as needed.

Now it has the story with the host playing Winter and up to 3 others can join in for co-op and play the campaign together as a team.

so no secret that Bella, the robo man and morales brother will survive the story -.-'

Scripted AI don't really bother me so much as long it's isolated to when certain places in the game takes control in order for a scripted event to happen. If the AI does things differently in between these parts I'm fine.
  10. chupacabras acheronsis
they're set pieces. animatronics at a theme park.

they won't interact or do anything but what the script says. they'll be there for the scene being and most likely f**k off until the next segment while you wade through alone, that's how games do it now. at most they will be AI roaming some area until they're killed or you finish. you probably will have to take care of them if that's the case, which i would be okay with if i had the smallest amount of control over them.

    If, if, if, if...
  11. Predaker
Not sure what the confusion is about exactly, but various parts of the campaign will have AI marines with you. You don't control what they do, but there will be other marines around. The Sephora has a full batallion of 400 marines and there will also be the main characters Bella, Cruz, and ONeal.

I was of the understanding that the game was simply going to be you controlling one guy, while the AI was controlling other members of the group you are in? So am I wrong to think that this means I'm not going to be seeing any of this?

Squad based games are fun in their own way but personally I always wanted a traditional FPS co-op for an Aliens game. My younger brother would probably be more interested in this game if it had squad based gameplay, though. (We are close in age but have different tastes.)

Back on topic: Winter excels in firepower... does that mean he has big guns? Lol

I pictured Brothers In Arms in space.

    That too.

In other words I wish they delivered us a bunch of helmet wearing grunts.

And btw., as much as Bella feels like another sexualized cute face eye-candy for male gamers, O'neil annoys me even more... He looks like a total cartoon character. Like some Gears of War jarhead. Beefed up steroid toddler biker wannabe moron. He looks ridiculous and completely out of place, whereas his buddy Cruz looks like he belongs to Deus Ex or something.

Such lame super hero characters... Gearbox are drifting further and further away from the Alien universe for every new release and trailer floating by. I think we're going to end up with another generic sci-fi FPS. I have completely lost my appetite for this game.

Yeah, but the game looks freakin awesome and it will play awesome. Why so down chum. Downess has a tendency to become viral.

Because I don't like the direction this game is heading.

It was supposed to be a squad based game staying true to the lore, delivering us the ultimate Aliens experience. But when taking a peek at the game as it looks right now it looks less Aliens than AVP2010.
  17. Kimarhi
I actually thought that was what one of the things AvP2010 did right.  Its depiction of the Marines was pretty close to accurate.  Marines are confident.  Infantry Marines confidence borders on arrogance.

Had a redbadge female Marine offer to hold my watch when we played her platoon in football today.

"Hey dickface, come here and I'll hold your watch.  f**ktard."

    That was them being nice.

The Marines as characters don't disappoint me, it is the fact that the Marines are in so many Aliens games.  Thats just one group of all different orders of society in the human race.  Use some different characters from somewhere creators.
  18. szkoki
Looks like this game will come down to this...it will be like AVP but with realistic resemblences to the movie Aliens and with a decent multiplayer mode but the characters, the story all will be cheesy and lame again i fear....thats it no hope for good clever ideas in videogaming nowdays, just about graphic and about making the game possible to sell it to the widest range of costumers.
  19. reecebomb
Im sorry, but these characters seem so uninspired and conflict with alien universe. Bella looks really similar to Tequila, who looks a lot like Michelle Rodriguez. To they really have to steal from everywhere, nothing about this game hints originality.
Probably will still buy it though, even if the experience will be masohistic.
  20. Capsule
I have to agree that the characters are very cardboardy. If Randy would really want to impress Cameron with his 'canon' then he'd add a properly strong female character, not just a pair of tits and ass. Linda Hamilton, Sigourney, Mary.. they're not the most beautiful, they're rough survivors. This princess Leia is targeted for young male players and the whole calculativeness in that aspect of entertainment industry ruins many good sci-fi movies and especially games. Check out the new Total Recall to see my point. Guns, cars, tech, babes. Plastic, soulless, calculated, targeted .. Where are the ugly people? Women with scars!!
