26102013_01 AvP Miniatures Game Coming Soon!

The possibility of the an upcoming AvP miniatures game was posted on our boards earlier this month. Yesterday, Prodos Games created an official Facebook page which included numerous WIP pictures of their various models.

Of course, these are only WIP images at the minute but it’s all very exciting for Aliens/Predator tabletop gaming at the minute. Keep watching this space for more information.

If it hits $270k, all backers will be getting a free Praetorian. Also:

So is this like Axis and Allies? When you have miniatures with cards and you use them as your own team against someone else on a map?

I collected Axis and Allies (started up a Canadian Army in fact) and Star Wars for a while, but later realized it's better when other people play the stuff too, and eventually lost interest.

someone had mentioned about making a chess set out of this , anyone had any thoughts on how they would do this ?
It shouldn't be that hard - you'd just need enough miniatures to represent the chess pieces (you can decide which miniatures represent what) and then get a chess board.

I mean if you wanted to get all fancy you could try and make a custom chess board, or mount the miniatures on special bases (or even wooden bases, if you could find some - a craft store might have something suitable).

Also cancerblack I gotta say your avatar is creepy as hell. :D

What, this little guy? He's adorable! Wouldn't hurt a fly.

The entire spreadsheet for the Pledges in addition to the goal marks has been revealed. Check the Kickstarter link.

Been unlocked for a while I think. I'm interested to see who they put inside the Power Loader. My bet is a marine, since they've been iffy about civilians in general so far, not just named characters. Really hope we get to the free Praetorian stretch goal though, that thing rocks, and it'd free up money for more rank'n'file.
Who doesn't love the Son of Godzilla?

Also, yeah me too. I'm trying to sell some crap on eBay to allow me to throw money towards the pledge. I'd very much like a free Praetorian!!!

I dunno, I think their Alien models look pretty slick so far, I'm looking forward to seeing what else they come up with.

I do agree that I'd rather see WY as a faction over "Stickman", but part of that is apprehension of what they'll do by creating the Stickman faction from whole cloth. They're going to be creating an entire (theoretically, fully formed and balanced) faction based on 1 creature that got 3 minutes of screen time.
I mean I kinda get why they'd roll WY in with Humans/Marines, because I imagine they wouldn't play that differently. But there's ways to make them play differently and give them special rules and equipment, similar to how Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines play differently in 40k despite technically being the same thing.

The whole Stickman faction thing reminds me of when the Starship Troopers miniatures game introduced the Skinnies as a playable faction, and the creators basically had to make up the faction from scratch because the source material (TV series and Heinlein book) didn't say a whole lot other than "they exist".

Mongoose had permission from Heinlein's estate to make what ever new races they wanted as long as they approved them, the skinnie hargemeny  was created from Heinlein's own notes.

They also made 2 other races as well. One that was finished, The Forth, and one that was in the prototype stages, The Coven.

(was a bad SST miniatures fan back in the day)

I'm sure the stickman figures will sell really well.

Btw... the redesigned Predalien actually looks worse than Chet.. with even bigger dreadlocks. lol. Way to mess something up even further.

I'm less concerned about Perry being the writer as the makers not being able to tell the difference between the Alien and AvP designs. Shows a lot of love and attention to detail there.

I just hope their abilities are balanced well.

I've temporarily changed my tune on that, in the hopes that it's just some IT guy googling the word "aliens" and making the temp banners. I probably shouldn't, but I'm holding out hope that when they release the renders for the Warriors, we'll get a pleasant surprise.

In case you weren't up to speed, the unlocks with images straight from google search so far are (off the top of my head):

    -Warriors
    -Praetorian
    -Crusher
    -Sentry Guns
    -Hellhounds
    -Berserker Pred

Still not happy that Steve Perry is the story writer of this project. Really don't dig his stuff, especially when it comes to anything related to ALIEN.

Fourth faction not being W&Y (or Engineers)? ...Really don't like the sound of that. The Arcturians are most likely just humans (a colony of transgendered / androgynous people or something like that) and not some Star Trekk alien species.

The Stickman species as its own faction implies a lot of freestyling for the game makers, which usually doesn't end well...
  12. PanCoreUnit
Wow those are some pretty great minis.Female pred is weird though. :-\

Also what the hell is  stickman?? ??? I assume it is that river ghost thing from predators.

Yeah me neither. I mean I'm willing to give it a go and see what happens, but I'm also not exactly hopeful.

They could dig into the EU and make another faction if they wanted - the Leading Edge' Aliens RPG has a couple ready to go for them (the Harvesters, Arcturians).

Well Harvesters are pretty much animals, as are the EU Arcturians (movie ones have never been described.)

IMO having a 4th race would be interesting,as long as it is done correctly.

Yep. It was mentioned in the Q&A section - someone asked if W-Y would be added as a fourth faction, and they said no - that W-Y would be lumped in with marines, but that they were looking at adding factions somewhere down the line by digging really deep into the IP, and that the first thing they were looking at was stickman (presumably since he's the only living alien outside of Xenos, Preds, and Predhounds we see in any of the films, as they don't have the Prometheus license).

I'm watching this now. Very cool info coming in!
    Power loader? Yes
    High quality card stock? Yes
Size of game board? 270+ inches (didn't quite remember exactly)
Number of players? 1 - how ever many you want as long as they have their own squads
Customizability? Yes, you can interchange arms and heads. Put them in hot water and repose them and quick chill them to hold the pose!
Future expansions? Yes, the ship the game's story takes place on a ship. The ship will crash. The next expansion will be the planet.

    Love it
  16. Mr. Domino
So, couldn't be happier with their Q&A (Even if I did get back essentially "what a nerd" when I asked whether the May release of the KS stuff was tied into the 35th anniversary of Alien). The biggest takeaways, for me, were 28mm Linn Kurosawa and Dutch from the AVP Arcade game, and a storyline that will continue into future box sets, which just makes me ecstatic.

...these beasts will be massive (come on at least a 50mm base and be approx 80mm high).

    Oh shit guise.
:o That thing will tower over everything, I can't even imagine how big the queen will be.

Queen is confirmed for 120mm base.

    Hey guys,

I have pledged for this campaign, but am after Aliens more than Predators. I was wondering if anyone might want to work out a swap for my 2 Kickstarter exclusive Berserker Predator models, in exchange for 2 PredAlien models?

The Berserker Predators hunt in 3's, after all, and you can only get 1 per pledge... so someone must need 3, and I need more PredAliens :)

    Let me know!

Also, I'm hoping we'll see the actual sculpts of the Alien Warriors before the campaign is over, since they were an early stretch goal. Hopefully they'll look more like the Aliens from the original 2 movies :)

Ah, another tourist from Dakka! Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat you are, no use for a BSP coz I'm more into the Aliens.

That's not a final render, though. The Warriors, Hellhounds, Praetorians, and Sentry Guns are all PSed images taken from other sources (The Sentry Guns are the in-game model from CM, and the others are action figures). They weren't expecting to go so far so quickly, and are scrambling to get renders up of as much as possible.
You know I hadn't even considered that. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll come through and make genuine 'Aliens' Aliens.

Also their pic of the Berserker Predator is from the Hot Toys 1:6-scale figure if I'm not mistaken.

I like how instead of doing their own mock-up of the Praetorian they just threw some tint onto a picture of somebodies custom Praetorian figure.
As it stands, it looks like a Xeno from AvPR with the Queen mantle photoshopped on the back of its head.

If you search "Alien Praetorian" on Google images it's one of the first images that comes up. It's a custom figure. They just stole the image and painted it blue.

I think I remember seeing those pics before, Cancer - have you posted them on Dakka? Still look great - The HorrorClix Pred repaints especially, I'd think would work ok as character figs in a Pred army for this game.

Yeah, I made a thread there when I was last making a big push on them. And I do really hope the HorrorClix Predators will be close enough to the right scale to fit in with the Prodos ones, because I've got seven of them.

All I can really make out in that pic is the blue on the Gargs' wings, but it looks great. :)

Sent you a PM with some better close-up shots. Didn't want to clog up the thread.

    Thanks. :)

    Sentry guns and Praetorians unlocked.

I might as well post this here, these are some AvP minis I've been working on over the last few years (between disasters). I'm probably never going to finish the project now that this stuff is coming out, so here, enjoy the AvP project that never was:

  25. sjs41390
Yep, you'll be responsible for painting and assembly (or rather, you GET to assemble and paint them!) - these minis are like tiny model kits.

As far as what the figures will look like, there are two kinds of shots Prodos has put up - CG renders and actual model shots. The most recent one labelled "Procast" at the top was an actual model shot, to give you an idea of the difference between the two. As an avid wargamer, I can tell you that in terms of sheer technical proficiency, the sculpting on these models compares very favorably to most of what's currently available from other companies.

Now, for painting and such - it's not necessarily for everybody, but it's for a lot more people than think it's for them. I've had a lot of people tell me they don't think they have the patience, or the skill, or their hands are too shaky, or whatever, but take it from a complete stranger on the internet who claims to know what he's talking about - it's all smoke and mirrors. I have very shaky hands, certainly not much skill, and I only started seriously painting about a year ago, so I don't have a ton of experience, and yet this is my most recent Warhammer project:

    http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l476/Mr_Domino0990/DSC_0202.jpg

There's a few very simple techniques you can learn from anyone who knows what they're doing, and/or from online tutorials that can get you going with a bare minimum of trial and error. Of course, as with all things, there's no substitute for experience, but the only way to get that is just to dive in.

Haha thank you for the detailed response! I think that set you painted looks excellent. I'll have to do some research into the types of paint and brushes to use, but if I'm going to do this, I want to go all in. Sounds like quite a bit of work, but it also sounds like a lot of fun!
