New Prometheus Alternate Scene Still

Fox has released a new Prometheus still via their Facebook page showing an Elder Engineer from the alternate opening of the film. According to the official site:

This opening sequence, with the presence of many Engineers, was cut from the film to further enhance the mystery of our creators. Throughout the film, the filmmakers wished to enable both the Prometheus crew and the audience to experience parallel levels of mystery.

Seriously, everything that was taken out of this film should be put back in because Prometheus needs all of the help it can get.  I know that the art of making a well-paced film has much to do with editing but there just seems to be too much here that was taken out that would make the film better.  Again, what was Ridley thinking?!?

It certainly doesn't need this scene. Good choice to drop it, I'm even dreading its appearance as an extra. Prometheus doesn't need much to elevate it, it just needs to feel less like a short-hand version of itself from the two thirds through mark.

Alien3 was improved greatly when nearly everything that was deleted from the Work Print was subesquently re-insterted for the Special Edition.  Sure, the film still wasn't a masterpiece but it was better.  And sure, Fincher still hates it but that has more to do with the process of the whole thing that has left a bad taste in his mouth.  Ridley can re-insert everything and blame the theatrical version on FOX wanting a shorter film so they could rotate it more in theaters and make more money.  That is something most of the fans would believe even though it might not be necessarily true this time.

Just like Blade Runner, this is exactly what I would tell fans if I was Ridley and wanted to release a Director's Cut within five years from now.

To me it doesn't even seem to make sense to have faces torn by age. I recall little to no wrinkles on the last Engineer's face, so what was he a child or a fan of Olay skin care? He looked oddly smooth and without any wear of age, which gave him a godlike appearance. This also implies that old age effects them just the same as us which, again, just makes them seem less special. Somehow that just crossed my mind now and not when we saw the first elder Engineer.

They filmed it. with dialogue. and they didn't liked after that how the engineers speak. it robbed them of their mistery. so they cut the scene. if it was a quiet, it's possible the scene would have made the cut

Cutting out these scenes was a good choice imo. Mr. Marble held his own just fine.  :)

Glad they did away with this opening. These guys belong in Attack of the Clones not the alien universe.
Oh snap, I totally missed your comment about it. However that was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

    And it's the truth.

Of course I would like to see the actual scene first. If it was indeed filmed. :)

Looks like a really bad halloween mask. Glad they cut it out. But i would like to have some extra engineer scenes into the movie. Let them look a bit more intelligent. Put back the Davind/Engineer talk scene.
