And Alex you seem to be forgetting that it's possible for a Predator to kill an Alien with it's bare hands.
The Celtic vs. Grid fight showed as that a Predator can hold an Alien off with its bare hands, but despite being in a position to pick Grid up and slam him against stone pillars, Celtic was unable to do any damage without weaponry. At all.
Any Predator that faces an Alien unarmed is pretty much destined to die. The best one can hope to do is stave off death for a little longer.
Quote from: Aeus on Aug 02, 2010, 09:00:43 PMMarines don't even compare to Predators in terms of firepower bought to the plate.
Plasma casters are high-precision and pretty slow-firing, if we take Anytime's panicked shots at Dutch as its highest RoF. They don't tend to create large explosions, being more comparable to sniper rifles than anything else.
A marine's pulse rifle has a high RoF, huge magazine and packs rounds that could tear any living organism a new one in seconds. Unlike plasma casters, they can put down suppressing fire and are viable weapons for close-range encounters. Their underslung grenade launcher gives them a medium-distance weapon with greater (if less precise) destructive power than the plasma caster as well.
As I said in the post you replied to:
Predators are hunters. They mark quarry and tailor their gear specifically to hunt down their target(s). They're all about precision and economy of motion.
Marines are soldiers. They work in teams to take and hold ground for political and corporate gain.
Entirely different types of warriors for entirely different battlefield roles. There's absolutely no way five Predators are packing the firepower of twelve marines. As we're all aware, though, Predators don't operate through attrition.
