Looks like one of the Carnosaur movies.

I'm not sure. The raptors from the Carnosaur movies looked different... but i could be wrong. I haven't seen all those movies in a whiiiiiile.

Maybe 100 Million BC. I never saw that all the way though... cuz it was baaaaaaaad.  :D

No, the Herp Raptor is indeed from 100 Million BC. Could recognize it from a mile away.

I didn't so much mean design. I ment the piss poor effects. I was damn sure that it wasn't a Carnosaur film because the bad practical effects are burned into my retinas.
And Siskel had the nerve to give it a thumbs up, the bastard!

It had Michael Gross in it and I am still trying to forget it exists.

COWBOYS AND ALIENS

Wowza! I love these. The bulging eyes are pretty nice, and the overall critter is a pretty solid design, it has a lot of personality. Is this the final design?

That's the final design. Well, maybe there's a few changes, but if there are, they're barely noticeable.

Ok Laufey, here is a first taste. Some of the following art was also used as promotional material:

One of my favourites:

I also got pictures of the maquettes of both adult and baby Godzilla... dunno if they interest you as well. Just let me know. ;)
A pair of notes: I got more in my archive, but unfortunately could recover only these for now. That, and when I get around to pick The Art of Godzilla up (it's in japanese? WHO CARES) I'll scan it to death.

Definitely. I might not be a big Godzilla fan in general, but I quite like the American version and I absolutely love the design. :)

I could hug you. So much.
I think Tatopoulos' Godzilla is hands down the best Reptilian Monster design that has ever been starred in a motion picture. It's like a gargantuan, imposing Dragon. A magnificent Beast. The textures, the teeth, the head, the dewlap, the plates, the flow of the design, its personality - as the ridiculously huge Reptile fanatic I am, Godzilla hits so many targets at the same time. Truly and in all sincerity I could have, Tatopoulos' Godzilla is the ultimate Monster for me.

Ok, here is the first conceptual maquette (conceptual meaning that it set up the general design of the creature that could -and did- get modified later) Patrick Tatopoulos sculpted. This one was presented back in 1996 (I think, should check dates) to Toho, who loved the design and approved it. As you can see it's slightly different from the final version - there are some aesthetic differences, textures, etc. In addition to that, the rows of dorsal plates are two, not three, and the creature has a fifth dew finger. Both of the latter changes were requested by Toho during production of the film. The baby Godzillas mantain the fifth dew finger probably because there was not enough time & additional budget to remove them.

This is instead the final maquette of the Creature. You will notice the dew finger is still there - it was sculpted before Toho requested the change.

In the midst of sculpting...

...and the finished maquette.

This is instead the Baby Godzilla maquette.

Wow. Love this one. Very reptilian.

Omega. You are the Jocasta Nu of the Monster Archives. And I know we have a big difference of opinion as to the quality of cinema the Trizilla picture was ... but there is NO DENYING the expert craftsmanship that went into the design of it's creature.

It feels almost like watching the new version of The Thing, and seeing all this tender loving care put into practical effects only to ultimately have them 'enhanced' or 'over shadowed' by cgi money shots.

That being said, I'd love to see a practical effects version of The Thing (with minimal cgi where it was absolutely necessary due to design) and a new blu of Tristar's Godzilla with in depth practical effects behind the scenes. There is NO TRACE of any practical effects on the current Godzilla disks available.
