I kind of see it both ways.  It is nice not knowing exactly how everything is going to finish, but sometimes the books are just better overall and they shortchange cool characters in the show.

But it balances out overall I think.  Prefer the books, but the show is way better than I thought it could ever be, so there is that.  HBO should be the go to place for miniseries/series to get done.

I'm so pissed that Old Man's War is being done by SYFY.  IT DESERVES HBO.

Clive Mantle played Greatjon Umber in GoT and 'William' in Alien 3. There's also Deobia Oparei in addition to Dance.

Weiss and Benioff always said the the series is not a one to one adaptation, but is it's own thing. Besides not everything that works in a book works on screen.
