The Alien Covenant: The Art of the Film is on the way! I’m sure we all expected it to be come out but it’s always nice to see it officially confirmed! In their Frankfurt RightsGuide for Non-Fiction and Illustrated books, Titan Books have confirmed that they will be producing the Alien Covenant: The Art of the Film.
“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.”
We’ll likely be seeing much more of Dane Hallet (who created this artwork on the Alien: Covenant creature department crew shirt) when Alien Covenant: The Art of the Film hits the shelves in August 2017.
Alien Covenant: The Art of the Film is due for release August 2017 and will contain 192 pages of full colour artwork. The recommended retail price is £29.99 with no details as to who will be providing the accompanying text and no cover at the minute.
Titan Books have previously released Prometheus: The Art of the Film in 2012 and more recently The Art of Alien: Isolation in 2014. Titan Books will also be publishing an Alien: Covenant novelization and a sequel novel, both written by Alan Dean Foster, in August 2017.
Thanks to felix for the news.

Starting to get the feel as if the facehugger is more of a mecha for the alien to plant itself in a host than anything.
This was pretty much inevitable. I never got the Prommy one. Might pick it up.
'Prommy'... haha. Nice.
The 'Art of Prometheus' book is worth getting.
Either way, this item goes straight onto my 'Must Buy' list, along with the Bob Penn photography book and other stuff. Gah. Stupid list isn't getting any shorter. *sigh*

 It never does.
I seriously dread the release of this movie. When the inevitable NECA figures are announced, all 3 of us are going to require medical attention.
That is Me, my wallet and my bank account.
There's going to be so much suffering when that announcement happens.

That's a new synopsis isn't it? Harrowing escape?
Do you think any of those leaked photos will appear in this book?

Yeah, that's definitely a recent addition. It's the same one Titan used for the Covenant novelization too.
Art books are cool, the Prometheus art book is cool, I'm definitely down for this book.
I take a little bit of issue with the description blurb calling the Alien franchise "his [Ridley Scott's] groundbreaking Alien franchise", as if he is the only one who has contributed to it. It's a little demeaning not only to the filmmakers of the sequels, but the other people who were part of the filmmaking process on 'Alien' who massively influenced its look and feel.
Nice to hear. Looking forward to it.
Yeah, vanity here. But Titan also released the WY Report for the EU market: http://titanbooks.com/alien-the-weyland-yutani-report-7779/
Booyah.
that right a book call alien covenant the art of the flim i just wait to read it when it out soon love the alien series i just hope that fox and syfy would make a alien tv series featuring the weyland chronicles and the ripley chronicles spinoff series is based on the movies but alien covenant will be out august 4 2017
If I were Ridley Scott, that blurb would make me scratch my head too. Its such a cock rub. We know for a fact that Alien had many names attached to it, and it took many variations. There is a trinity in effect. In truth, Dan Obannon, HR. Giger. then Ridley Scott.

Absolutely right. Could never be stressed enough.
But Scott himself seems adamant on appropriating all the success of the film, more than he used to be. Why is that ? Why denigrate Giger's macabre genius when the derelict's exploration scene was the crux of the tale and could never have turned out so breathtaking without the Swiss painter's immense contribution ? Why the contempt for Ron Cobb as well, without whom the starship would never have been so mind-bogglingly believable ?
The strength of the original piece is O'Bannon's, read the Starbeast script and you should be convinced of this. (Well, maybe...) The class of the end product is Scott's merit.
By adding their own concepts, Hill and Giler added complexity but took some coherence and consistency out of Obee's work, just like Lindelof's output was a downgrade (and a resolutely ridiculous one at times) of Spaihts's unpolished but powerful and convincing first draft.
I hope the artbook is better and richer than the Prometheus one. Ben Procter and David Levy's online portfolios offer so much more lavish preproduction artwork than what could be seen in the printed version. Seemed just like the tip of the iceberg in comparison.
Any chance of getting a copy in a contest or some lottery ?...
When has Ridley shown contempt for Giger, Cobb or O'Bannon?

When has Ridley shown contempt for Giger, Cobb or O'Bannon?
For O'Bannon I don't think he ever did, quite the contrary. I never said so.
For Cobb : in the Fantastic Film number 11 interview (back in '79), he spoke of Cobb as "Nasa-level advisor" and suggested that he much favoured the Heavy Metal approach. I quote : "To me, they had gotten into the future. They managed to put their finger on what could be. It's speculative, not futuristic, as Cobb's work was." Later he calls Cobb's sticking to engineering verisimilitude "dramatic knowledge". The subtleties of the English language may elude me, but it sounds pretty condescending as far as I'm concerned. Enlighten me if I'm wrong.
For Giger : when Prometheus entered preproduction he suggested he never was that fond of Giger's obsession with bones and dead things. I'm positive this statement appeared on the web because it knocked me down flat. Arthur Max's influence ? David Levy has recounted in a video interview that he and other designers had fought to maintain the Giger style despite Max's resolve to get rid of it.
Looking forward to this! I love art books, and the one they did for Prometheus was pretty great.

Mark Salibury isn't writing this one.
That stinks, he did a great job with the first one. I'll still be picking this up though. I really like the Prometheus art book too. Especially, the images showing the Deacon running out of the ship at the end.

Just sounds like he was saying Cobb was more interested in what was plausible and functional and the others were interested in less grounded ideas.
Yeah I'm not getting anything especially contemptuous or condescending.

Wooow great cover art :o
Dane is very fond of that head design. Rocks up in a few of his images.
Is that the adult Neomorph? Cool as hell.
Love it.
That cover is awesome
No f**king way that artwork was legit!? :P
I have seen that image float around the web before. Some light research said it was made by Dane Hallet, who worked on the film.
So proud of my nephew Dane Hallett! He followed his dreams...xxx
That cover is crazy, I love it.
I like what I see.
The man is exceptionally talented .
Really can't wait to chat to him when the film comes out.
Just average...
Average? If that even nearly resembles a grown Neomorph I'm sufficiently freaked the f out.
I love that concept art, I hope something like that made it into the film.
Now, that's far superior to the chunky, beluga-like Neomorph design from the 'Prometheus' concept art.
Like Hicks, I've always loved the version of the famous head without the cowl, showing those empty sockets. They were probably trying to go for that with the Newborn, but it failed. Much better done in this piece of art.
This, I wouldn't mind, at all. It looks like it would fit right in with the kind of landscape environments Giger used to visualise.
Reminds me a bit of the face of the Beast, from 'Krull', actually. I always did like that creature's facial design.
Can't really judge what the rest of the body looks like, of course, but I like that head.
Can't wait to see the new Alien based on this design.
Fantastic!
Excellent
I LIKE IT!

I think he actually made this concept art before he actually started working on Covenant, thats why I'm thinking that nothing like this image will actually be in the film. I hope I am wrong though. :-\
Not bad, though I personally would have went with a different design of his.
If that's indicative of the Neomorph in the film at all, and not just a concept piece that was used for the cover....I am with that all the way.
I recall that I loved this particular design when it was previously shown around here. Sadly, I reckon it's somewhat 'Giger'-esque look will NOT end up anywhere to be seen in COVENANT. But I'd love to be proved wrong.
Loving the cover art. I hope they dont abandon those huante designs, they are terrifying
"I think he actually made this concept art before he actually started working on Covenant, thats why I'm thinking that nothing like this image will actually be in the film. I hope I am wrong though"
It's more or less a drawing of Carlo Rambaldi's alien head from '78. I hope they somehow include it, but it's not really concept art if it's been done before.
what the f**k is this, spoiler alert!?
On his facebook page when someone asked, Hallet says "I swear I'm not being intentionally vague, but Im not sure what made the final cut. Sorry man".
So can we infer then that his design above *was* built, and filmed, but he doesn't know it's actually in or not? Rather than not knowing if it was even created by the creature team. Or maybe he doesn't know if it has been used in CGI.
At the very least it sounds like he thinks it might be in ...
if this Alien is a spoiler is a really dumb move by AVP Galaxt to pist this without a spoiler alert so we all can be spoiler, can anybody confirm?
It's the front cover of a book, not an unauthorised on set photo sneaked out behind the backs of the studio. It's not a spoiler.

Well we don't know if this is one of the concepts that was used or not. It's not unusual for them to do loads of concepts and not go further with them.
Sure, but he didnt say he didn't know what had made it beyond concept into production, he said he didn't know what had made "the final cut".
Might not mean anything of course.
He could mean the final cut of designs to be fabricated.
True.

It really seems like Fox pulled the release date forward without telling any of the license holders. NECA didn't know, either.
I hope they did/do actually get to speak to some of the artists for some actual context. I like these things to know what would have been and I like to know the story behind the art.
Seems like such an amateur move by fox, you would think they would have planned this a bit better.
I'd have happily waited for October if it meant getting a better book.
As would I.

If the title of this has now changed to The Art and Making of Alien: Covenant, what's the point of the other book? I thought this was supposed to be artwork and the other one was the making-of stuff?
Only point I could see of the other book is that it's a "Collector's Edition"... ::)
I know it's out in the states, but like with the novelization, just got an email from Amazon saying that the estimated delivery date had been revised to unknown. :-\
Apparently it did get shipped yesterday and is due to arrive today...make your mind up Amazon!!
They did the exact same thing with the novelisation for me - sent me an email saying it had been indefinitely delayed, then another one telling me it was on its way the very next day lol.
Mine arrived from Amazon today. Haven't had time to open the package up yet though.
Arrived in the post today. Nice book. Some great imagery and insight. Only complaint is the lack of anything surrounding Shaw (especially after hearing Dane Hallet and Matt's interview on the Perfect Organism podcast) ... keep in mind I've only had a quick glance at the book.

My thoughts on the Art of book.
What exactly is the contents of this book (https://www.amazon.com/Alien-Covenant-Official-Collectors-Titan/dp/1785861921/ref=pd_bxgy_14_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1785861921&pd_rd_r=3R0BD9N06N9FEN8B95N7&pd_rd_w=672PL&pd_rd_wg=PU9jg&psc=1&refRID=3R0BD9N06N9FEN8B95N7), anyway? The description on Amazon doesn't help very much.
Is it worth getting? What does it have to offer..? Does it compliment 'The Art and Making of ALIEN Covenant' book with different content? ...or is it just a duplication of it all?
Thank you.
