We now have our first look at Danny McBride in Alien: Covenant! Following on from the reveal of Michael Fassbender’s blurry new look in Alien: Covenant earlier this week, the Alien social media accounts have now shared a new picture giving us our look at Danny McBride:
We now have our first look at Danny McBride in Alien: Covenant!
Captioned “Mission Briefing” the picture also offers us a peak at what appears to be the cockpit or bridge of the Covenant. It definitely looks like it retains some of the gloss of the Prometheus but seems to be much more subdued and in line with the style of the Hadley’s Hope control room. The console also appears to be using aircraft like flip-switches.
Back in May, Michael Fassbender spoke a little about the design aesthetic of the sets, saying that they have "an old-school element where things look battered, like the original Star Wars..."
What do you reckon to this latest picture? Let us known down below!

At least the ship looks a lot better for the continuity which will have Gateway Station and the Sulaco, decades into the future, being spoken of as "state of the badass art".
Not to mention, the colony's non-holographic 2D map table. :)
Nice pic now there coming more frequently. 8)
Love the design so far :o ;D
Loving the look of the cockpit, never been really bothered by the idea of updating the tech in the alien universe though.
Love it!
Definitely going back to the classic design established on the nostromo..

Perfect design!
Not quite the push-button look of the Nostromo but I think it looks so incredibly like the Hadley's Hope control room - remember that picture that folk thought was from Covenant? It still looks like they have some aircraft style flip switches that look pretty cool! Really digging on the look.
One small info, there are strong hints that we ll see
documentary movie about making of Covenant.
I still dont know who will direct it!

Yep. Me too. 8)
and a few minutes after this pic was taken Danny McBride blew up the console ;D

I hope it's documented really well. I love how many behind the scenes stills there are for Prometheus. Hope they get as many for this! :)
I hope so too.
Anyone else feel like Fox just wanted to push the Noomi news down the feeds?
Looks fantastic!!! Now that's more like it; far closer to the Nostromo aesthetic without being too similar at the same time, it's a colony ship after all. Man these set pic releases are making me optimistic, FOX have been pretty transparent with the direction of the film thus far.
For continuity, it needs fruit machine buttons. :)
Looks good. I thought maybe the technical number that starts with the letter "Y" had something to do with Yutani, but it looks like the design is different from the Yutani logo...

I was thinking that too. But the news is out. I was reading what you wrote about Fassbinder not being photographed yet with Blond hair/David 8-get up. I'll bet there is some reasoning to this that involves NOOMI's scenes.
Also the cockpit is the real looker here. I like the use of color and I hope this movie is 3 hours long.
Hey, they're using Ron Cobb's Nostromo icons! I see the 'mechanics' icon on that yellow thing on the extreme right. 8)
Oh, this is more like it...

The toys are back as well! There's one atop the seat and another figurine on a console.
Reminiscent of the Dippy Birds and the Gashapons from Alien.
And McBride is looking suitably scruffy as always.

I think that's one of those hula-girl dolls that wobbles when you go over bumps. Awesome. :D
It sure looks like it. Probably McBride's toy. Likely serves a similar purpose as the wobbly Gashapons in Alien, indicates when the ship is accelerating/decelerating.
There were actually some pretty cool toy Easter eggs in Alien. Hanging from Kane's console was a little Elephant Man figurine. Not only would Kane be the first to see the elephantile Space Jockey but John Hurt would also go on to star in David Lynch's "The Elephant Man" as the titular character a year later. Very bizarre!
At one point Ripley and Parker jokingly asks Brett whether he's some kind of parrot because he keeps saying "right". And it turns out Brett actually has a toy parrot on a little perch hanging over his console/workdesk. Brett also built all these little wooden sailing ship models.
I like the orange and green color scheme.

Loving the ship design! Can't wait to see more.
I'm really loving what I'm seeing. Not much else to say about it. :P
I bet he's saying to Danny.... " Now it will explode through your chest onto the console."

You have got to love all the tiny bits of detail in Alien. It's world building on such a small scale but it works just so incredibly well!
What do we think? McBride is the pilot?
McBride has an engineer (not the blue type of engineer) look about him. The poor guy who has go down to the ships den and fix everything. I dunno, just guessing.
I do love the retro styling of the console, though.
lovely sets

He's just the captain.
He's definitely a Parker-type character. Comic relief, to get 3 laughs from the audience before he dies. :P
Parker-type. Maybe Hudson-type? Fodder + laughs. Agreed.
All this talk about types is disconcerting. I want a movie with new characters, not recycled ones from Alien.
I don't think there is an implication that these characters will be any way like the earlier characters, rather that those characters were sort of archetypes of humour. You've got the guy who acts tough but is really a chicken, and you've got the guy who is rough around the edges who is a reflection of the "common people". I expect a lot of great comic relief from Danny McBride, and in some ways I hope they don't take his comedy too far.

They're called writing tropes. Alien used stock characters but breathed life into them, anyways, considering how economical and pragmatic that film is, regarding how it treats its cast. Alien had Parker and Brett, Hamlet had Rosencrantz and Gildenstern. Recycling is part of the game. As long as it isn't a literal palimpsest, with Scott tracing over Alien, I don't care.

Yea but that's what's disconcerting. He's essentially bringing back the boy because it's what we want. He's introducing the bitches mother and even introducing Ripley's mother. What if at the end of the movie all the people from Alien are abandon on Paradise as children? The chatter here sounds exactly like that and if Ridley's listening he may very well give us that. I mean dude's, it's a colony ship. How do we know it's not that mother ship of the entire crew of the Nostromo?

I don't know about you, but I'd rather have Scott give me what I want and expect, which is familiar elements used in unexpected, clever and funny ways. I don't want a repeat of the Counsellor, which, while it was rather left-field and experimental, made me crave for something a tad more conventional (and I really liked that film).
im excited :)
As funny as Danny is, there are shades of darkness in his comedic roles. He made me feel very uncomfortable in Pineapple Express.

Ha. I love that comment about the cast dinners.
QuoteIt was nuts. The idea that he trusted me to be a part of this thing is something that I'm still blown away by. I'm not allowed to talk a lot about what happens in it, but it is a straight horror movie. I've never been on something that intense before, with that level of visual effects and gore. I've also never been in a movie where people just straight up die like that. When I started the movie, the cast would go to these dinners and it was like twenty people. Then each week, the numbers dwindled and it became less and less people at the table.

One year away....couldn't it be for this November, shoot... I wonder how gory this will be, hope it's done right.
I'm sure any gore will be handled well with Scott at the helm, he isnt really a gore hound.
On that note, I want it to have some gore, visceral, like in Alien. Obviously we don't want slasher flick gore, and I wouldnt think we would get that from scott.
Yes, Scott will keep it classy.
True. It'll be on the level of Kane's death, surely. A lot of gore but in a brief time, no lingering or being exploitative.
CGI. Heavy
I hope the gore is more practical... that cgi stuff still doesn't get the job done. So straight up horror movie... I guess that mean less exploring and more a-killing. Although I wonder how much body horror vs bloody horror he is speaking about.
I'm sure there's going to be some heavy exploring where they're going!

I'm of the same thoughts. Alien had gore but it was intense gore, not gore porn. I'm hoping that's the same way that he'll be handling it here. Not gore for the sake of it but as a punctuation.
I am loving all these comments about it being horror though.

He'll definitely be exploring. That's the whole point to his prequels.
The comments on the cast dinners were perfect, maybe there's footage they can time lapse lol. Well it does seem that Ridley tried to film as much in order as he could then.
Maybe McBride goes out like Parker
Considering he's able to witness the cast dwindle, that must mean he survives through a fair amount of the film. Boo! Boo! Spoilers! :P
He's gonna be our Parker.
No offense but there is only one Parker and that is my Parker.
The gore comment doesn't bode well. It should be about mystery IMO.
I wouldn't overreact to it yet. Alien had gore. It wasn't gore porn but it was gore.
And ifthey're shooting practically there's always more on-set than on-film.

Doesnt bother me at all, as an alien film some gore is to be expected. I myself prefer a certain level of gore, at least similar to the amounts seen in the first 3 films. Like everyone else has said, as long as its not gore porn then there shouldnt be a problem. It's not like Scott is known for crazy amounts of gore in his films anyway.
If Danny's our Parker, who's our Brett? :P
Alien had gore. Kain bursts open, and the filmmakers literally use gore taken from an abattoir. At one point, in the movie, they tried using bones fro ma abattoir for the derelict scenes, according to Giger. Brett and Parker's heads are both bit into, and in Parker's case, you can see the skull come open and the brains pop out. Ash's head gets knocked off with a baseball bat. They used "Nottingham lace" for the inside of the alien egg, as well. It's a violent, gory film.
Gore can be used to great thematic effect. For example, the on-screen violence was one of the great qualities in Alien 3, IMO. The shot of the Alien after it kills Boggs and the blood sprays Golic.. the look of the alien was one of the best shots of the creature in the entire series. The way the alien picked apart some of the prisoners was intense (Jude being an example). I think that if done well, and I think the focus in Covenant seems to be on intensity, then it very well may be a good quality to have.

Where in the contract does it state that Alien:Covenant has to have a Parker who's a white guy? Now if you wanna pay the man some money we can have Yaphet Kotto reprise his roll.
True, this will probably have smart gore like in Alien & Aliens...not that disgusting shyte from AR..Whenever I think of AR I think of Piss Puss or worse.

Gore used right. Alien had gore, but some of the horror came through suggestion, Lambert's death occurs off camera, but it makes you wonder what happened when you see her swaying off the ground
Pause the sceen of a dead Lambert and Parker. Lambert has no trousers on and one of her big toes is dislocated. Factor that in with what Riply hears over the Tannoy.
Haha see, you have to pause the scene in order to process all the gore. Otherwise it's just quick flashes i.e. classy gore.

Like someone else said, Lambert was naked from the waist down, her pants, underwear (I'm guessing), socks and boots all being removed. And I swear to god one of her toes is broken. I thought it might be a prop, but I'm thinking a model with double-jointed toes?
Makes me shudder! :/
The reason that scene is so powerful is because it is suggested, and because the scream that Lambert gives is so horrifying. It sounds, towards the end, with the stutters, that she's being raped. Not cool. Still, it's not shown, and we hear it while Ripley is running in vain down a dark corridor. This isn't a brightly lit room, even; there's lots of space to imagine as the horrorible act occurs off-screen.
Alas, the scream they re-recorded in the Alien: Isolation DLC, Last Survivor (I think, or was it the other one?), for Lambert dying sounds so bad! XD
