I actually liked the idea of the newer, more slender tongue. It seems more deadly but I'm not sure how it would fit into the alien mythos. Kind of sad how Giger was ignored in a sense, I would really like him back in the prequel(s).

Thank you very much! I'm not fond of the ending, it kind of tapered off, I wanted to end with a quote from Giger talking about his love for his creature, but I was so damn tired. Working in an Alien3 analysis that's 1/3 done (and online now, some of it). Can't get enough promotion!
Actually, watching that video, I see ADI did pay some attention to Giger's vision. The tweaked head for one, that's all Giger. The end result looks slightly different from the concept art but the fuller lips and the cheese grater-ish head are based on it. Then there's the big blade on the tail, absence of back tubes and perhaps the slender limbs. They did put their own twist on it but they did not just ditch the concept art. I'm not quite sure which version I prefer. They both have their strenghts and weaknesses. Those claws, ugh. Then there's this third version:

I have no idea, Mus. Apparently, according to Giger, he
was working on a full scale maquette (not to be confused with the smaller model we see in the documentaries), but FOX dumped him at this point. Perhaps this is the full model? A seemingly cast-iron version of the smaller model was built, as we've all seen.
Easily... Giger's version was the best... was David Fincher responsible for choosing ADI's version?

Visually I found the ideas of Vincent Ward on the artificial planet good, but the rest of his visions for the film, Ellen Ripley as the battles against the alien, having reference heaven and hell, alien pregnant Ellen Ripley in the old way, and the remaining aliens freaks, are absurd. At least it's less absurd ideas that Eric Red and his screenplay.

Just look how far superior the coloring on Giger's Bambi Burster is. It matches the original alien so well and gives it this organic look on its head. Its far better than ADI's orange led look.
As far s Giger's runner - of course I prefer it over the muscled up ADI version. The art, biomechanicality and sexuality would still be a part of alien's features

Those knife like blades that shoot from between the aliens fingers (gigers concept) are used in Pitch Black. Theres a scene where one of the bioraptors shoots out some weird blade thing from its hand. I wonder if it was a deliberate homage or if the person that designed it knew about gigers ideas for alien 3.

Oh man it would have been so great. Love the idea of the very feminine mouth and the blades shooting out between its fingers. Pity it wasn't used!
Agree somewhat on the first, greatly disagree on the second. Inter-fingers blades are no good for me.
I didn't like them at all at first, but they're growing on me. Overall I've begun liking the whole design a lot more. The cheese grater shoulder pads for example, at first I did not like them, but now I find them real f**king neat-o. Everything just flows together really nicely. The lips however, I'd probably prefer something a bit closer to what ADI did. Fuller and more human, but not straight out Angelina Jolie. The limbs feel rather bland as well, there's no detail on the forearms, for one.

after doing my usual obsessive detective work on alien 3 as it is my pointless obsession trying to promote the goods and "downfalls" of it, i stumbled on your website and spent an entire night reading every possible bit of the review and more and was left wondering "why cant everyone in the world know about this sad story"
it was brilliant and professionally well written journalism and you nailed everything i have ever been thinking about the movie, some which i even laughed aloud at the holes u found and it was good to find another fan who goes on living with the fact that alien what ever the hell that movie was, was wiped from the timeline. i love the movie, the alien design still to this day, as well as the acting and beautiful atmosphere but i still do agree it was the end to what almost couldve been as big as star wars, only like rated R and it drives me nuts but like i said it was amazing finding someone who basically wrote everything i was thinking about the movie
