Title: Alien: Covenant Release Pulled Forward & Fox Offers First Glimpse Of The Alien
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Nov 23, 2016, 11:30:27 PM

20th Century Fox has announced that the release date for Alien: Covenant has been pulled forward yet again, this time from August 4th to May 19th.

The announcement comes via a teaser poster that has just been released on 20th Century Fox’s various social media platforms. The new teaser posters also offers us our first look at the upcoming film’s Alien: Covenant’s traditional Alien, with a simple tagline of “Run”. We have also confirmed with 20th Century Fox that this is an announcement in change of release date.

Fox announces that Alien: Covenant's release has been pulled forward to May 19th 2017 with a new teaser poster showing the film's Alien!

Fox announces that Alien: Covenant’s release has been pulled forward to May 19th 2017 with a new teaser poster showing the film’s Alien!

As we previously mentioned, 20th Century Fox has been recently testing the film and are currently filming additional footage at Leavesden Studios. This marks the second time Alien: Covenant has had it’s release pulled forward (it was originally announced with a release date of October 2017) and Alien vs. Predator Galaxy has heard that the studio is pleased with how the film is turning out.

This additional change in release potentially shows real confidence on the part of 20th Century Fox as it now puts Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel release into close proximately with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5th). Alien: Covenant’s only similar competition on release date, however, is Annabelle 2.

Keep tuned to Alien vs. Predator Galaxy for the latest on Alien: Covenant! You can follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram to get the latest on your social media walls. You can also join in with fellow Alien fans on our forums!

Spoiler
Neomorphs though.

A further pull forward in release date has been expected actually so it's not too surprising. They've already had a cut together to show the studio heads and for testing with audiences.

May 19... wow.  That's keen!   As far as Anniversaries are concerned I'm kind of surprised they didn't choose May 25th.   Either way, I'm sure everyone is happy with the release date being moved forward like this.  Several months is substantial.   Suddenly this is all shaping up to be something special.

All the same, the poster looks great!

I don't think Alien 3's anniversary is that big of a miss, especially if they do forge ahead with 3.2 after.

As for Alien Day, I expect a massive promotional push if it's now that close to release. I mean, it'd be a waste otherwise.

Honestly, I was skeptical that the xenomorph would make an appearance despite the rumors. It just seems like, from a narrative standpoint, that the events in Covenant and the next sequel(s) would ultimately lead up to the original Alien film. Now that we know we're getting at least one xenomorph, it'll be interesting to see how Scott plans on connecting these films. I honestly thought the xenomorph made more sense ( chronologically ) making its first appearance in Alien. The neomorphs and the Deacon and all the inbetweens make sense, but damn, if we're getting the xenomorph so early in the mythos that kind of takes away from the original film a little bit imo.

Fassbender recently said that he knew of a full cut of the film already being complete. From what I've seen, there's been a lot of indication that practical effects have been a focus within the production. Not to mention, there was apparently a lot of on location shooting. August did seem a bit far. With limited CGI, this new date makes sense. Why wait?

First official poster and also advance the date of release! This is better than Santa's gifts. ;D

The design of the image does not convince me. Not because of the minimalist, but because he seems amateur to be all of the same tone and have those lines so straight in drooling. Although now that I think... perhaps this, the frontal perspective and not see the skull is intentional. Look at the teeth. They do not look like the perfect metal teeth of a xenomorph. And without the greenish-colored filter, the alien could be white. I bet that's a neomorph!

I think the reasons of the rush is 1) 2017 has a lot of potential blockbusters so Fox is looking for a month free of competence and 2) Fox wants to solve once for all if Alien 5 has green light or not.

This could also be a testament of confidence from Fox. August tends to be like the last chance for summer blockbusters. Anything from early May to the end of July tends to be an excess of high marketing and big time movies. There's always that pattern of March blockbusters, summer hits, and then hits in the holidays.

God is great!

Man this is awesome news and better yet that teaser trailer must be coming out in the next few days. This alien is meant to be a forerunner to the one seen in alien. So a simpler more organic feel to the runner is expected. And that tag line, "Run"... I wonder if this is Ridley Scott version of Mad Max! Fury Road? :P

Why wait?

You do realise if this movie does well, Blomkamp's proposal will probably be set aside, possibly for good.  Fox will concentrate on the sequel to 'ALIEN: Covenant'.  There won't be a retcon either way.

I can see Blomkamp picking up the sequel and be its director.  That's more likely to happen.

Scott:  "Well, that movie worked out well.  Neill, would you like to make the sequel?"
Blomkamp:  "Hell's YEAH!"
Scott:  "Cool.  How about that 'ALIEN 3' retcon bring back Ripley and Hicks and stuff..?"
Blomkamp:  "Pffftt... Screw that fan fiction bollocks.  I want to make a REAL 'ALIEN' movie."
Scott:  "OK, then.  Done deal.  Let's do it!"

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that CG animation will be utilized. I just meant that by all accounts that we've been privy to, a lot of practical effects went into this production and the final cut will come faster as a result. Despite the existence of CG, practical fx have come a long way, and in my opinion they're more efficient and better looking than CG, with much praise to the kind of brilliant artistry that can be accomplished with that technique.

Nice teaser poster, I'm glad to see they ain't hiding the Alien from us. So im wondering if the final act of the film has another more sinister creature we ain't seen before? Anyhow I'm just glad we are at least getting some form of the original Alien, even if it does look slightly more organic then the original did. (That's if this Alien from this teaser is the same one/type from the leaked photos a few weeks ago with the Cleft lip)

Taking about them leaked photos? Just think how more awesome this new teaser poster would of been if we never got them leaked photos a few weeks ago. Man we sure have been spoilt and we ain't even had the trailer yet.

Taking this poster in...man, it is damn good to have a straight up Alien film again. No versing, no spin-offing. Just an Alien film. With one hell of an A-list crew.

A lot of talented and A-list crew were associated with the previous films, but certainly not this amount or this amount who are all at their career apexes.

Hello AVPGalaxy! Longtime lurker, first time poster. The recent news and poster release made me finally register. With that now said:

I know we're all excited to get a "real" Alien movie again, especially from Scott, but I'm worried that seeing the xenomorph so early in the mythos is bad storytelling. Shouldn't the xenomorph's introduction be the '79 film? I'm all for the crazy monsters like the deacon, neomorph, etc, but seeing the xenomorph in Covenant makes me wonder if this is a cash grab. I really hope my cynicism is unwarranted. I'm still really excited to see this film, just dumbfounded that Fox would allow the xenomorph's face to front and center on a poster so early.

RUN... away from movie theaters!

LOL No really. It looks cool, but I really thought the original alien should have been the big surprise in Covenant. Putting it right into the teaser is kinda odd. Anyway... does this mean that we are going to get a teaser soon? Even Prometheus had one and so far there hasn't been any for Covenant.

Yay, there is going to be Aliens in... an Alien movie.

Pleasantly surprised by the little things we've seen so far, after Prometheus, i had kinda lost interest in the alienless/funny-bald-men direction they took, but this is shaping up to be exactly what i wished for, get back to the horror/terror aspect of the Alien franchise instead of the polished Prometheus stuff.

Good times ahead  8)

Yes, but I think Prometheus was understandable move, because simple chase movie is worn out.
Yes, we need horror and creepiness but we need a compelling, mind boggling, mysterious story. That above all!
Prometheus, aside all its flaws introduced that smarter story, that bigger picture!

Yet, here we are, back to the "Alien chasing men through dark corridors", and people already say "good, that's what was missing".

We don't need no bigger picture that in the end doesn't make any sense anyway, Prometheus explained nothing it set out to do, and people left unsatisfied.

Let's put it how it is, Prometheus was a f**k up, Ridley wanted to do a big, big Alien movie, FOX didn't, we even heard rumblings about money in the pre-production phase, the compromise was that this movie was then changed and marketed as something entirely new so Scott could get more money and FOX felt more comfortable, in the end of the day, the movie ended up pleasing noone.

It was only after Ridley came in touch with Blomkamp and his ideas for A5 that he wanted to do a more true Alien movie, after seing the fans reaction FOX was also on board this time, giving Blomkamp a nice big "f**k Off and thank you" in the process.

This is basically a remake of Prometheus and probably the movie Ridley wanted to make anyway.

Post by: Enoch on Nov 24, 2016, 11:58:39 AM
I agree with that. Covenant will probably (*read as certainly) contain Prometheus and Alien elements and
I hope new writers (togheter with Ridley) will fix some of Prometheus flaws (nonsense/mainly character and narrative things; not so harmful things to the series as a whole), aside that, I have an info it ll answer many of the questions (Prometheus opened) but the mystery will be intact at the end... maybe even amplified.

Simple new alien chaser movies are not necessary...
why making 5 same movies (except 3 of those were so-so even bad)?
Alien 3 and 4 didn't have any twists worthy of original Alien standards.
Cameron's movie was an action packed thriller... and very good one. Fine
sequel to original.

Prometheus is indeed an ambiguous movie...I like that kind of movies. In this case, Prometheus
could be a very satisfying movie (no matter its character flaws and its strange position in Alien series) because it just opened more doors but without closing those already opened in previous movies, that's great thing you must agree. So, Prometheus was like a probe movie, maybe Ridley wanted to know how far he could go with that ambiguity and deeper story and how much of the Alien he needed to have in the next movies. I believe he all along intended the sequels to Prometheus to be complete Xeno movies but with that bigger story and not completely connected to original movie. That's why he said they ll get to original but through back door.

So this one could be in a sense a partial remake or better yet a revision of Prometheus!!!

I'm loving this and love the faith Fox is finally really showing in the franchise for the first time since the 80's.
I love the tagline and the fact its an original Alien in the movie, they would have had to use this since the true look of the Neomorph they want to keep as the real surprise.

Wonder how this will effect the Neca figures and the Novelisation release dates

Feel like I've been waiting since 2012 for this poster. Ever since 'Prometheus' was announced as 'an original film with strands of alien DNA' and the whole is it or isn't it an alien movie/alien prequel question kicked into gear. 'Prometheus' was a pseudo prequel to 'Alien', no doubt about it. However it was far from 'an Alien movie'. Everything we have heard and seen thus far about 'Alien: Covenant' has cemented the idea that this is every bit the Alien prequel we have been waiting for. Roll on May 2017. And whatever you do, when the Alien gets here, 'RUN'

You mean this one... its interesting but pretty humanoid in its origin... that frontal part.
It can be one of that black goo mutated versions  of Xeno, but that originally conceived through
facehugger needs to be more divine, elegant and yet strange/creepy... otherworldly (from other dimension).

That's why this one without eyes (skull morphology) is a lot more effective...
Creatures dwelling in dark doesn't need eyes!

Had to sign up for this, so stoked to see some real progress on the Alien series,

is it my bad memory, or didn't Ridley say he was sick 'to the back teeth perhaps' of the snarling drooling Alien, that the beast was done + cooked?

Doesn't this refute his stance?

could be a very satisfying movie (no matter its character flaws and its strange position in Alien series) because it just opened more doors but without closing those already opened in previous movies

The doors were already opened and that's what made the charm of alien.
Prometheus clearly intended to close them, in 3 chapters, so nobody's going to care because the answer will be like every trilogy post 2000s be set at the very end of the 2nd film leaving us with a third act that just paste magic glue here and there to fill 2 hours of money's grab.

I mean, just look at the synopsis of Prometheus:

QuoteFollowing clues to the origin of mankind a team journey across the universe and find a structure on a distant moon containing a monolithic statue of a humanoid head and stone cylinders of alien blood but they soon find they are not alone.

And look at the ending:

Spoiler
Following clues to the origin of mankind Shaw and Daniel team to journey across the universe to find a planet.
[close]

The first lines are the most important of them all and are just "left" like... meh.
And it's not like we cared much because since the introduction scene we get the idea that the engineer created us, there's no suspense, no plot twist, just a tv series that tries to do its best to fill 10 episode for the first season  ::)

I wanted the skull Alien.  The black, dead eyesockets have always been creepy to me.

On the idea that we don't need anymore "Alien Chase" movies, I would like to point out the entire world of throwback horror movies that are getting a lot of love and acclaim, and most are just very simple movies.  "It Follows" is probably the best known of them, and it is a perfect minimal horror flick, and pretty much just a monster chase film.  Doing a chase movie might seem mundane to us, but to younger people going and seeing it for the first time they might really enjoy that aspect of it.  Hell, I would take an alien chase movie over most things out there.  Give it interesting creatures, strong characters and design, and a few interesting points for people to ponder that lead to the next movie and I'll be golden with it.

Eh... Very underwhelming poster design. It looks like an early 2000s fan-art thing done in Photoshop: Technically decent enough, but nothing innovative or special.

The slogan sounds like they completely ran out of ideas (no pun intended). I really hate that choice of wording. It needed to be a clever play on words or at least harken back to the original. I was hoping for something like, "In paradise, everyone can hear you scream," etcetera. Just "run" feels really cheap.

Not sure what to think about the face. The teeth look like rubber with silver paint sprayed over them. Would have been nice to see a visibly more transluscent look to them, like the Queen had. On the other hand, the skin texturing looks nice and there appears to be a satisfying return to the tendons on each side of the jaws, which the ADI designs minimalised. The drool seems to be the right consistancy, too - thin enough to seem like realistic saliva.

Because minimalism seems to be a design trend as of late I can see why they went in this direction. With regard to the (minimal glimpse at the creature design) I'll put my bias front and center before I open my mouth, but I really dislike what ADI did to the series (the only exception being certain shots in Alien 3 that displays the ferocity of the beast-- and that isn't fully ADI's credit but the DP, direction, etc. ). The alien carapace here, and this isn't an in-film screenshot, looks much better than it has in ages (thinks AVP teeth and alien head design). Now, even in Alien you can't always see every detail of the creature, but it doesn't take anything away from its brilliant design. This isn't my first rodeo with the series—and we all have our opinions—but, I will keep a very open mind until we see more (which I hope is today).

Just knowing the Alien is in this is enough for me, even if this film is crap at least an Alien lit by Ridley will look beautiful, I'll take that all day long

Completely agree, but still optimistic about
the overall movie we ll get. ;D Something is telling
me this one will do great. It will honor the original one
and maybe surpass our expectations.

Always a chance this is just an early placeholder. They might yet change the tagline/reveal another one before release.

In fact, given that "Run" is kinda bland, I'd almost bet money on that happening.

Let's hope!

They should be reviewing the marketing for 'Alien Isolation' and trying to distill some form a 'best of' formula from that. I'm surprised they even went for the facial reveal and not a more moody close-up of other, more ambiguous, body parts.

The translucent skull gives it a human touch that makes the alien even more terrifying, especially when it is very subtle and almost imperceptible. In fact most people do not know that the xenomorph skull is visible. That's why when suddenly you see some basins without eyes by a stroke of light can be creepy. It is part of the mythology of the character, and gives texture and credibility to the head. It makes a lot of sense that if it has been engendered by a person it has a human features:

And here I was thinking I was alone. I agree so much. The idea that they could turn a complex organism like a human into something like an egg with various components is puzzling and doesn't gel well with me. The queen was organic and inevitable.

If it turns out that Aliens were made by Engineers, then maybe it could have something to do with the fact that they're Engineer technology. The Black Goo mutates us at a much faster rate than eggmorphing does. So it'd be well within their capabilities if they're Engineer tech as well.

Or it could be like Samuel said, it's keeping them for food and stored them in an egg like container. Maybe the "egg" could work like a carnivorous plant, slowly digesting them into a gooey nutrient soup or something.

Just knowing the Alien is in this is enough for me, even if this film is crap at least an Alien lit by Ridley will look beautiful, I'll take that all day long

Fox really wants fans to KNOW there is an Alien in this film. They want no confusion or debate. No one thinking they may not get to see one, like they did in Prometheus. I actually wish this could just be called COVENANT because I think that's what RS probably WANTS to call the film, but I suspect tagging ALIEN before COVENANT is coming from a PR standpoint at FOX.

No. Ridley wants it called Alien: Covenant. He's in his "competing with Star Wars" mode lol. He wants to make an Alien film. He wants to explore the xenomorph. He's back to loving the Alien lol.

Lol yeah the black goo transforming someone into a monster is easier to reconcile than a person turning morphing into an egg at least to me. It's all good.

You mentioned this somewhere earlier as well but I'm too lazy to go find and quote that post. The skull just isn't visible in the film. Someone once had a go at me for mentioning the skull on Facebook because he had no idea about the behind the scenes stuff.

Personally, I love the skull. I find the empty face as creepy as I find the complete lack of recognisable features. There's just something about those empty eye sockets that I find creepy as hell. Personally I wish they'd have used something like the cowl-less head for the Newborn. The only part of the PredAlien design I really like is the Predator-skull underneath.

As for eggmorphing. I find that pretty creepy. It's a little bit of a stretch but if butterflies can do it...  Going forward, there's the whole accelerant angle though. Depends on what they decide it is is capable of and what it does.

From what I understand, he's more interested in David. 10 guesses where the Alien angle has come from? I really hope the development of the film is covered really well in the BR.

While I love the poster design per se, I think it was a big mistake to already show the classic xeno head in all its glory. This should have been the great twist of the film, the return of the classic alien.

Instead of the head, I would have used only a close up of the slimy TEETH of the xeno in the middle of the very dark background...  the tagline RUN is kinda cool though.  ;D  8)

Things must be going well development wise for this to have happened, right? Just half a year away. They better not make a similar mistake to what Scorsese just did by releasing the first trailer for his next film less than 30 days before release... I mean I'll still be seeing Silence but the general audience has less than 30 days to find out about it.

Behind the scenes chatter seems to incidicate it's all going really well and shooting went really well. As for trailer, I don't think it'll be left that late. I still expect the trailer by December and I know they shot a bunch of virals again.

Logical marketing would say a trailer is coming soon but just imagine if we never got one ... (of course that will never happen) but just imagine for one second going in totally blind to see Alien Covenant without any knowledge from a trailer (bar some leaked set photos and a few snippets from the actors).

The alien and deacon are cousins right? Well in any case it's likely they both come from whatever's on the wall. Alien: Covenant probably stars the thing on the wall, plus a few modified nasties. What I'm hoping for is the alien on the poster being the exact same beast in the mural. As in the forerunner to the engineers rise.

Not really impressed with what I can see of the alien so far, it just looks like some bad fan art of the dog or resurrection alien to me.
I can't make out any bio-mechanical elements and it looks like it has wonky hillbilly teeth that ADI loved to give them.

There will always be people who do not like something and are not satisfied with something.
Now when we have alien,  we ll hate the fact it looks somehow and not different or how we
imagined it to look. I think the first thing humans learn when they are born is hate and dissatisfaction.
Maybe that's the natural thing... when you learn that, you can also learn to appreciate and love something, or
maybe we are all just pricks...  :-[ :P

The engineers couldn't of created the Alien, especially for them to be 'created' only a few years before the first alien movie is supposed to take place.
The derelict ship on LV426 is ancient, which suggests the Alien has been around LONG before Prometheus even takes place.

I'm not a big fan of egg morphing either & I'm glad the idea was scrapped. It doesn't seem as natural as the established method of the Alien's reproductive cycle.

I won't really mind if it appears in the new movie though since the black goo will probably be around. I mean there are definitely eggs in there, weird eggs!

There's room for both egg-morphing and queens, it's a surrealist creature so it follows that not everything about it is "natural", when a xeno is solitary it should still have a means to reproduce, personally I find egg morphing delicious nightmare fuel and I feel it has not been properly realised yet.      Imagine it occurring rapidly, what an amazing scene that would be!

The skull is awesome. It hints at what used to be a man, a kind of deformed skeleton twisted into all that alien mass. I love it.

The Alien gestated in a human, but it never "used to be" human.

Quote from: SamuelDL on Nov 25, 2016, 06:04:28 AM
It is part of the mythology of the character

Not when it never featured in any of the sequels and isn't even visible in the original's moving footage. It's only ever shown in publicity stills.

Artistically, it's a nice touch, but making it so that the Alien is truly, well, alien to anything we know, makes it more mysterious. Eye sockets imply death, but the lack of them reinforces another inference of it being truly 'evil' due to seeming 'soulless' (that whole adage about eyes being the windows to the soul).

So, if your objective is primarily one of horror, then the skull works. If your objective is to amp up the mystery and make it seem truly alien, then a smooth and socketless carapace works better. So, both techniques work in their own respective ways.

Biologically-speaking, the skull doesn't really make much sense, since it has no evolutionary need for one: The surrounding head is the (endoskeletal) skull.

Yeah, the release date is now almost exactly the same as Prometheus back in 2012, only about 10 to 18 days difference. So I guess they'll follow the same or very similar formula to Prometheus' marketing campaign. I think the first Prometheus teaser was released in late December, around the 23rd or so, wasn't it? Off-hand, can you remember the date the viral marketing kicked-in?

What in the world makes you think that ship was ancient? In case you somehow think that Jockey corpse was fossilized, you're wrong.
Fossilization requires a thing to be buried in something. That corpse was mummified at best.
Also, the eggs were fresh... They are organic, it's impossible for them to be functional/alive for ages.

Yes. E.g. tardigrades can exist for a long time in space. They shrivel up, but reanimate in the presence of water and oxygen.

Thats kind of how I view the eggs in Alien. We don't know for sure whether the interrupted blanket of laser light or Kane's presence and bio signatures activated the eggs, but I'd rather view the eggs this way like tardigrades rather than the egg-morphing route.

Of course, they are fictional. Doesn't mean the story isn't obliged to make sense. I know extraterrestrial life shouldn't be really attached to any of the known scientific laws, but that's what authors are aiming for, most of the time. Also, that's where the most of the criticism comes from, when people are having problems accepting certain parts of the story. I just wanted to point out that that person's understanding of the story's timeline is twisted, because of the false logic.

Agree. I actually like egg morphing better. It's a lot scarier. But it was a scrapped idea (for a good reason), so I'm not sure why are we still trying to fit it into the story.

Still doesn't mean the eggs are all the way from that time as well, right? There's a possibility that "Alien:Covenant" or the next film in the series will actually explain that exact derelict ship and/or the origin of Aliens as we know them from Alien 1-4. If it really has anything to do with David, it means the eggs on a derelict are indeed fresh.

Morphing eggs are actually canon now given the official extended/directors cut of Alien... I think the franchise is big enough for both concepts to co-exist. 😊

Speaking of BTS -

Just think, with the release date moved up to May 12 (which means this will be coming out just before my birthday) that means by this time next year we will have a Blu-Ray with HOPEFULLY another 4 Hour BTS Doc.

That's not too mention that alien day is 2 weeks before the Release Date - which means this could very well be an even better Alien Day than last year. And last year, I watched Aliens with Sigourney Weaver.

Its kinda cool they way we have seen almost nothing from this film and we are bascially 5 months away from a time when it will just be everywhere.

I like to think that both can exist in the current continuity. If the Alien has to, then it's perfectly capable of breaking down a hosts DNA and using it to create eggs for future facehuggers etc. And if there is a queen then she can develop the eggs at a much faster and more efficient rate. Both are fine with me. Meanwhile, back on topic, it is such a good sign the release date has been brought forward again. I'm thinking first teaser by mid December, full trailer in feb and or a viral or two. Things are going to liven up pretty soon as far as pre release promotional material goes.

"It doesn't seem as natural" is not the same as "it's not natural".

Besides, egg morphing has a very 50's pod people schlocky Roger Corman feel to it.

If you look at the variation in species on this very Earth the Alien is totally a thing that could exist.

"If you look at the variation in species on this very Earth the Alien is totally a thing that could exist."

You mean, like the hardiness of tardigrades, the pharyngeal jaws of moray eels and the ability of wasps to use host spiders to breed inside.  Sure.  But each one of these animals only individually displays traits of the Alien.

The implications of egg morphing are hideous.  Having your body and brain breakdown and form into something else, while you're aware that it's happening would be horrendous.  WAY worse than being facehugged.

I'm not arguing about how natural anything is in an infinite universe friend. I'm saying the established method of egg laying is more believable/less corny to audiences.

Yes! Is more Alien than the Queen's cycle. That way, the monster seems less and less an animal from Earth and much more like an extraterrestrial being  8)

What universe do you live in? :P

Eggmorphing is metamorphosing an unwilling host. If butterflies can do it why not an alien dna-construct from another world do it to us? It is both horrible and incomprehensible to humans as said up above.

Also with Ridley using so many unused ideas from Alien; he may also want to use the 8 different types of eggs idea left on the cutting room floor. So in this alien universe we can have everything. Egg layer aliens, Morphing Aliens, intergalactic transwarping starship aliens too.

How do you know that? Giger's mind was twisted as shit, how do we know he didn't enter into an alien consciousnesses near by and witness the alien in dreams. Which need I remind you, is where he first saw the beast. This wasn't something he came up with on the drafting board, it came to him in his dreams. Hive mind for the win. :P  :D

Sorry, the whole Queen Alien thing is what has become cliched and 'corny'.  It's stale and in need of desperate revision.  Eggmorphing was in these movies right from the very beginning, years before the Queen came along.  Yet, we've never even seen it complete its purpose.  We assume that eggmorphing will result in a new egg with a facehugger inside... what if it's something else?  What if it's something different. Don't you want to find out?

This is Scott's movie.   If anything, Eggmorphing will be in.  Queenie will be out.

That's a very interesting point you raise.  Presumably, an Alien could possibly inject a human with black goo - or similar bodily secretion - to initiate their transformation into an Egg.  I'm guessing that's possible, considering what we have seen in 'PROMETHEUS'.

The 'Alien: Covenant' Poster Pays Homage to the Original 1979 'Alien' Poster.

Quote  If you look closely, you can see that the Xenomorph head in the new poster has the exact same outline and shape as the alien egg in the original poster, as well as the same placement. Additionally, both use an all-black background so that the image in the center stands out all the more vividly. Lastly, both have something spilling out of the bottom. In the case of the Xenomorph, it's the drool. With the egg, it's a green noxious cloud that I imagine is meant to evoke the acid blood that would become known after the film's release.

I wasn't expecting any ALIEN COVENANT posters to feature an actual creepy 'Big Chap' head on it.  Not complaining though, as it's nice to have it confirmed that the familiar design will definately appear.

It will be interesting to see just how closely the body design resembles the original ALIEN version, when we see it's full form eventually.

While I can see how some like the word 'RUN' featured on this teaser, I think it kinda has a 'BOO!' vibe about it. :P

Personally, I would rather have had either the 'ALIEN COVENANT' title feature, or NO wording apart from the head and release date instead.  But that's just a trivial preference, and I'm really looking forward to what the final official poster looks like.

But looking back at some of the PROMETHEUS trailers, I reckon that they gave away a little too much after the terrific first teaser...and so I've decided not to watch any more after the first ALIEN COVENANT teaser this time around.

I prefer eggmorphing to the Queen honestly. As a poster already said below, who knows what the morph will be. If it is in fact the factory for spores, then the Neomorph is actually a new life stage of the creature. That's exciting because it means we actually have no idea what the xenomorph's final life stage will be. We assumed it was Queen-egg-facehugger-alien, but now it's seeming like it could be goo-egg-facehugger-alien-eggmorph-neomorph-?-?-?

That's exciting and fresh to me, personally. I don't care to see another Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Ressurection. Saw 'em, loved 'em, ready for something new.

It would be cool to see this through the perspective of a character going through it. Like as the chemicals break down their CNS they might start to have bizarre Alien hallucinations and lose their identities and stuff. Like grotesque images and some degree of dementia and some degree of awareness, while the Alien maybe still feeds on them.

In my weirdest dreams, I see this screenplay - William Gibson's Alien 3.

And I see it used along with eggmorphing... and the following Giger designs: the "alternative Queen" and the complete Alien redesign with the open, ondulating, singing skull, claws between fingers, tentacle-harpoon tongue and feminine chin.

Question popping to mind, how will the subsequent posters turn out, how creative will they get? The possibilities are endless. On another note, Scott had made a comment of doing 3 Prometheus sequels allegedly, is he still intending to do this or have his plans changed?

I'd assume Prometheus was simply a trilogy, Alien Covenant would be the second chapter and the third movie to come after wards will be the one the links up to the events of the original Alien. if there's any movie out of these 3 I want its the one that links to the original Alien, that's the prequels I've been waiting for.

I'm not too bothered about a 'direct' prequel bringing us right up to the events of Alien in the way that 'The Thing' 2011 did with Capenter's film. I don't think that is necessary really, but a film set before the original film, involving the aliens, engineers, and possibly a connection or two to the '79 film will do just fine for me.  8) And it sounds like that's precisely what we're getting.

Actually Alien: Covenant will be the first movie of a trilogy as far as I understand it. Prometheus may one day be retitled Alien: Prometheus though. However best as I understand it; they are planning for two more movies after this. I'm not sure if anyone remembers way back when, but I remember Ridley saying that he was planing on doing 3 or 4 movies. So Prometheus may well be the first of the four.

Not really, various nasty insects do it all the time. The egg morph victims are not turned into Aliens; their bodies are used for sustenance and protection for a deposited spore (Giger thought the Alien "drains the blood out of its human prey and [forms] the dried husk into a cocoon"). Probably why the inside of an egg looks like somebody's guts (and why the eggs in the scripts were described as having a 'tan discolouration' and 'leathery' appearance: they're rendered literally from flesh.)

IIRC, they used actual bovine stomach lining/intestines, didn't they? Wonder what the set smelled like under the hot studio lights and summer heat?

Kane also uses the words "leathery objects" to describe the eggs in the film itself.

What 'nasty insects'?

There are no insects on Earth that transforms their prey into eggs.  What's more, we aren't hosts to be cocooned or transformed in this way by any naturally occurring organism on this planet thus making the process outside our experience.

Some insects use hosts to breed in.  All insects physically change and metamorphose from larvae to adult.   There are no insects that combine both of these traits to physically alter the host and transform them. These are 2 different processes at work here and they do not occur together.  You could add a 3rd trait to this list.  Some insects actually cocoon their prey* - but once again, no actual transformation is taking place to the host.

You mean to tell me that you haven't heard of the nasty insect called Ripley?

It is eggmorphing the franchise into a reboot as we speak!

Lol kidding.

Some have suggested that the eggmorphing is probably not a process turning the host into an egg, but simply breaking it down into a nutritional sludge for the Alien/s.

But I like the idea of eggmorphing, it really sounds terrifying to be transformed while fully aware of it. Actually, both sound terrifying, turned into egg or into food for the hive... why not have both? It'd double the terror. Maybe the eggmorphed person's leftovers are used by the Facehugger for energy when it leaves the egg, and also for biological materials to help grow and maintain the emgryo. The queen usually provides everything needed when she lays an egg, but if one's not present then this'd make sense.

But a separate scenario is where a person is placed into a pre-prepared empty egg-like sac to be broken down and eaten by the others. So most of the time they'd likely be doing this if a queen is present, but if not, then they'd resort to eggmorphing. This makes me think of how ant and been hives have specific places where food is stored. How bees have them polygons to help feed the hive. Maybe Alien hives have these egg-like feeders for their hive.

Perfect organism, the ultimate survivor is ready for anything! Extinction can kiss its chitinous acidic arse for all it cares.

I rewatched Prometheus last night...it wasn't as bad as I remembered, but the unforgiving issues I have still concern the stupid character choices, the humanoid engineers and the crudely edited finale.

Is it possible to salvage the mystery of the Xeno and the Engineers? Yes. Just please don't let the Xeno's be a human hybrid made by David's experiments with the biomatter, and please let the Engineers be themselves mere servants to a higher, more "Alien" being.

The last thing we need is detailed explanations, excessive exposition of who and what these beings are. Imagine how creepy the briefest glimpse of another intelligent creature could be -  a master in the shadows, letting his beasts wreak havoc.

Of course I'm delighted there's a new movie arriving, I'm just more or less convinced the enigmas of the original film will be diluted, if at all present.

Worth mentioning that according to Ridley, nothing is transformed, the cocooned person is just a food source that the egg uses to grow. There are lots of insects that use still-living prey to feed their growing young like that.

You can't wish for something to happen. In the end, this is Ridley's idea. It is his creation. People need to stop this whole "I want this....that". You cannot please everybody. Besides, the derelict on LV 426 is much older than the year in which covenant will be taking place, thus, the alien being created by David on this new planet would conflict with evidence of eggs found on LV426. Let's be honest, he will not be bending the timeline this much.

Interesting word Run. To me the word links to Vickers telling David that if she doesn't tell him what Weyland said she'd find the cord that makes him run and pull it. I guess 10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD!", 20 GOTO 10, RUN
sort of thing. So Run to me made me immediately think of that, "running" or being alive in David's terms. I guess it's nothing to do with this but that's what I thought of.

I know what you mean, but at a basic biological level that is what exactly what eating and digestion is.    The egg, via the mechanism of digestions, is transforming the food source into itself.  I can transform pizza and hamburgers into body fat pretty easy :)

Speaking of which, I don't think it has ever been addressed what aliens smell like, has it? Wonder if it will be brought up in the movie here. I mean, if the alien from the first movie smelt of something or even of all the rotting guts and brains of the former crew members, it would have given the survivors a visceral prompt of its presence.

The Alien: From Egg To Adult By Smell

Egg:
Earthy, like sniffing a fungus growing on some moist dirt... until it opens.

Once opened, you would smell the most wretched fart. Not like a normal fart. The fart of an emaciated old lady wandering the halls of an old folk's home. Spoiled, boiled cabbage. The fart that tells you something's wrong with a person.

Facehugger:
This little guy still reeks of the egg for awhile, but it's own enzymes quickly clean it, giving way to a musky smell.

If dead & dry, it would smell much like the closed egg. If still alive & lubricated, more like patchouli & machine oil.

Chestburster:
Now of course the Chestburster is going to smell pungent & coppery when it's freshly birthed, being covered in the blood of whatever.

Shortly after though you would find that it smelled much farty like the inside of the egg. Maybe not as bad, probably like a freshly opened bag of BBQ potato chips. This is true of course until it begins shedding it's skin, at which point it would gradually give way to -

Adult:
The adult Xenomorph is constantly excreting lubricant from it's hide & drool from it's mouth which allows it to be a silent killer, a well oiled machine. The scent of the adult Xenomorph will vary slightly depending on it's environment & the amount and type of particulates it can absorb into it's body through the tubes on it's back.

Being biomechanical in nature I would imagine the adult Xenomorph has a very subtle scent if any, & that it would, if anything, smell faintly of machine oil or sex lubricant. If one were to encounter a cold, dry Alien that had been exposed to the vacuum of space for a brief period you might catch a wiff of motel room air conditioner just before it huffs it's pharyngeal jaw deep into your cranium.

When he's not covered in guts, the adult Xenomorph smells like the guy that changes your oil & is sleeping with his boss' wife. Start living right, Joe.

Still though, I get his point. I've always liked the idea the egg is actually a living thing.

In ALIEN i didn't see them like eggs, but as a egg shaped living organisme, like a Sea anemone or Muscle... even Kane didn't  call them eggs , but leathery objects...

I have always liked the idea of the eggs as grown by the derelict.

I've watched Alien res, AvP,  AvPr, and Prometheus in theaters and was let down by all. Prometheus  was a better experience than the rest though.

I really hoping I can walk out of the theater with a smile this time.

Ohh me too dude. Although I don't think I'll get the same feeling of wonder and horror that I felt when I first watched Alien. I was 9 lol. I remember it clearly. Loved it so much.

If Covenant can give me a tenth of that I'll be happy.

I have been around to catch all of those as well!

While I really liked Prometheus upon first viewing, I can see why you would say that. Seems like the series is trying, with each iteration, to climb out of the creative hole that started with Alien 3. Prometheus was really the best entry in the franchise since 3, IMO. All of the films you mention are blemishes on the franchise and are bankrupt of any content which elevated the first two films to legendary status. The storyline introduced in Prometheus is an interesting direction to take things in, it being a diversion to the beginning of Alien in a way, and very well may be the intense ride we have been wanting since Aliens.

We've heard potentially the 24th for the embargo lifting, and from French media the 26th for the trailer, doesn't that mean there's a possibility the A:C trailer WON'T be with Assassins creed? I would have thought Fox would have been wary about it leaking online if it premieres on the 21st

Just read a tweet from @trailertrack speculating the trailer could be "theatre exclusive" before Assassins Creed for a few days before going online. Kinda banking on Alien to get a few more bums in seats for Assassins creed.

Well apparently there's two Alien: Covenant trailers. One of them is for general audiences which I assume would be attached to Assassins Creed (PG) and a red-band trailer. Not sure if they will debut on the same day though. There's still about two working days left to get a certification for attaching a trailer to Assassins Creed.

It might get more people to see Creed but there will likely be shitty bootleg trailer footage of Covenant popping-up all over the internet.

I think I've only ever seen a red-band trailer (or whatever we call them in the UK) in a cinema once. I can't even remember what it was for or what I was seeing. Literally the only time I've ever seen a "not for general audiences" trailer outside of YouTube.

Yeah, that's what I mean... They'll be unable to combat that, which begs the question why not just put the pristine quality version up to avoid that.

Yeah, I think the red-band trailer will probably debut online only, unless there's a suitable R-Rated film coming out soon to which it can be attached.

Yeah, those are my thoughts at the minute too. We know there's 2 trailers. We know one is a red-band. I think it's a reasonable expectation that we'll see a tamer, general trailer in front of Assassin's Creed because it's Fox's most appropriately timed film and it stars Fassbender. Why would they not?

Then we'll get the red band trailer (which I think is what was being shown at these Showcase events, apart from the LA one where they saw both, or at least CdL did) online Christmas Eve/Christmas Day when the embargo ends and the press can talk about all the blood and guts in more detail.

But I would love some sort of definitive confirmation from Fox.
