With the news that the expected new Alien game is not coming out after all following Disney’s deal to buy Fox, fans will be looking for related things to do during the lockdown conditions.
Here are a few ideas to keep you going until the end of the coronavirus crisis – whenever that is!
Rewatch all the films again and rank your favourites
The obvious place to start for Alien vs Predator trying to fill their time is to rewatch all the films. Start with the original Alien film from 1979 and work your way through to recent release Alien: Covenant. Some of them are naturally better than others, but which are your favourites?
Alien and its immediate sequel Aliens top the list according to the ratings on IMDb, with the little-loved Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem from 2007 bringing up the rear. Do you agree with those rankings or do you think some of the Alien vs Predator films are a bit under-rated? Alien vs. Predator itself certainly seems to deserve better than a measly 5.6 rating on IMDb after all.
Watching all the old films again is likely to whet your appetite for the next movie in the series. Even though Covenant was considered to be a critical and commercial failure when compared to Prometheus, Ridley Scott is thought to be working on a third Alien prequel film. Alien: Awakening is said to be the title, though there has been little new information on it for months.
It is possible that the next Alien vs Predator-related release could instead come as a total surprise for fans. It has been reported that before the merger with Disney was finalised, Fox had completed work on an Alien vs. Predator anime series. Netflix is said to have been interested in buying the series, but it is unclear whether or not it will ever see the light of day.
Play NetEnt’s Aliens slot
The Alien vs Predator series and the various assorted films including either character have inspired a lot of different games, including this slot game produced by NetEnt. The slot is laid out on a standard 5×3 grid of reels, with 15 paylines in play for each spin.
Licensed by 20th Century Fox, the game is based on the movie of the same name from the 1980s. The story will therefore be familiar as players try to make their way to the Queen Hive. Monsters and alien eggs are among the various symbols that pop up on the reels during play.
There are three levels to the slot game, with the last of them being the slot game equivalent of a boss level, when players get to the Hive. The wild symbol in the slot is the Weyland-Yutani Corporation Logo, while there are 10 bet levels to pick from. On NetEnt slots, players use credits rather than real cash to spin the reels, with payouts initially made in credits as well.
Dig out old Alien vs Predator video games
Alien vs Predator fans will have been eagerly awaiting the new Alien game that was supposed to be coming out during 2020. But it was confirmed earlier in the year that the deal for Disney to buy Fox had led to the halting of the game’s development and its subsequent release.
Boss Key Productions was working on the shooter and the company’s co-founder revealed on Twitter that the plan had been for gamers to play as an adult Newt in the game. But with the title shelved, instead gamers will have to dig all the way back into the archives for the best Alien vs Predator video games that are still available to play today.
Widely regarded as one of the best ever Alien or Predator games, Sega’s 2014 title Alien Isolation is well worth re-playing today. The game – which received a number of five-star reviews – is available for Mac and PC, as well as each of the selection of current and previous generation of games consoles.
Go all the way back to 1999 and Aliens Versus Predator still delivers to this day. The PC title allows gamers to play as the Predator, the Alien or a space marine. The game is packed with action and stands up as a classic first person shooter even now. For an even more retro experience, the original Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 can still be played on Atari Jaguar.
