The Luna Bug is a species of enormous tripod-like creatures that are native to the planet Genna and live in the tree tops. It appears in the 2025 film Predator: Badlands, where one is successfully hunted by the Yautja Dek.
Appearance and Biology
The Luna Bug is an enormous carnivorous creature that lives in the tree tops. It resembles an octopus, with a primary central body with three thick, flexible legs, which it uses to move around the trees or on the ground. The end of each leg splits into three distinct digits or gripping pads. There is also a thinner tentacle visible on one side of its body. Two powerful, barbed tentacles can extend from its mouth to grab its prey.
Luna Bug chases after Dek and Thia.
Its mouth has sharp teeth, although they are not strong enough to bite through the hard shell of a young Kalisk (Bud). Its central body is protected by a thick, spiky bony carapace, but there is one small, softer area that is vulnerable to attack.
Role in Predator: Badlands
After killing the Bone Bison, a Luna Bug attacks the Yautja Dek and synthetic Thia and drags them into the treetops. As they are pulled into its mouth, Bud appears and jumps into its mouth, forming a ball. The Luna Bug’s teeth shatter when it tries to bite into Bud’s hard shell. The Luna Bug drops Thia and Dek and they fall to the ground.

Thia, Dek and Bud run back into the field with the Luna Bug in pursuit. Bud rolls through the razor grass and lures the Luna Bug out into the open. Thia tells Dek to run, but he wants to kill the creature. He slices down a tree and scales it. The Luna Bug catches Bud. Dek runs off the falling tree, pouncing onto the Luna Bug, stabbing his sword into the creature’s vulnerable spot on its body and killing it.
Abilities
