Quote from: CainsSon on Jun 16, 2023, 04:00:51 PMPeople are so full of themselves on these boards, that it's only worth coming on for updates and it isn't even the most up to date site.
It would help if everyone took themselves 90% less seriously. You're not experts on the alien series anymore than myself or at least 70% of the people who come here.

The irony is I'm one of the few people on here who actually works as a cam op and UPM in the film industry and has actually been on set with Ridley Scott.

I just want to bring to everyone's attn that Alien: Covenant confirmed all of the reasons people thought Alien: Harvest was BS, was just homophobia. Essentially, all of the content of the Alien: Harvest script appeared in different forms in Alien: Covenant and Raised By Wolves.

I've called out the instances of homophobic remarks made with regard to Covenant at other sites, I haven't seen any of it here, albeit to be fair I was only really lurking around at the time of its release. I'm particularly bummed that we won't get to see Fassbender fellate a facehugger, I could always draw it however... 🤔 I enjoyed Raised by Wolves, it felt in many respects a spiritual successor to the prequels and Scott's ideas. However I think whatever the plans were for Destiny would be better served in its own sandbox like Wolves and not shoehorned into the backend of the original. The derelict is a sacred site and should be left alone.

As Mike said there's many here that have been lucky to be involved in some capacity with Fox/20th Century, but I don't harbor a superiority complex over it. I'm just a lowly contributor. Getting a peak behind the curtain so to speak actually humbles you a lot with the stress of deadlines and rejections, etc.

I'm really excited for Romulus, there are very talented and passionate people working on it, and I don't get too excited for many movies these days. Fingers crossed!

Come. Sit down and grab a chair. I would like to know more.

[EDIT]

Actually nevermind, I remember you now.
Sounds more like you were next door to a production that Ridley Scott only produced? 🤔

Reminds me of that time that I was within 20 miles of Ridley Scott himself directing a production. That's not bragging of course...  ;D

Quote from: CainsSonListen, I dont wanna be a jerk but Im on film sets all the time. Im a Production Manager and an AD, and I run camera for major reality TV shows. Production is my life. Ive been on sets with Ridley Scott producing next door and I wish I were on his sets. That's not bragging. I just know. This is a 2nd Unit Gig. More so - it could even justify being given a Co-Producer credit. The only other option is an AD credit. There is not a chance they tell Luke Scott he isn't being credited for this because it was marketing. They would instead say, "Hey Luke what benefits you most here? AD or 2nd Unit Director?" And they'd give him whichever he asked for.

Any other thing shooting, in tandem with, or in addition to the main unit, which this would be, since the sets and actors are the same, would be considered 2nd unit. Again, I Production Manage and Assistant Direct. Trust me on this. Its the 2nd AD's juob to make sure these people are credited properly on Call Sheets. They could make up a Viral Unit Director credit, but it's completely unheard of and really shitty not to credit him on the film for this. If he wasnt credited for this on the film, it would look really bad for any production team and almost definitely violate DGA union rules/be against the law.

There could be 4 units in different countries each with a different purpose or director and they will all be credited as 2nd UNIT DIRECTOR. They could be doing almost nothing and they will all get credit. Its DGA policy. More importantly, they would want to credit themselves that way for future work. For instance, imagine this:

PRODUCER: Luke Scott, it says here you were 2nd Unit Director on Alien: Covenant. What did they have you doing?
LUKE SCOTT: I did several viral clips and a lot of the B-Roll stuff while the rest of the cast was in the studio.

There may be several units in a single day, and those would be called A, b, c, d, etc. And one might be effects, establishing shots, pickups, viral marketing, something that appears on a TV to be chroma-keyed later - There may be a different director for all of those and they will all be credited as 2nd Unit Director. Even if there are 10 units. The DGA requires this.

Its also just how Production call roll. There may also be several 2nd Assistant Directors and multiple 2nd-2nd Assistant directors all on the same unit. It just depends on the needs of the day, but production doesn't like to use the number 3, as a rule. Even 3rd Assistant directors are called Key Production assistants.

If they were to credit him as Viral Marketing Director, that would be unheard of. They would more likely credit him as an AD or a 2nd Unit Director, or even an Creative Producer. There is no other way to do it. And they aren't going to NOT credit him because its marketing. Thats really shitty and bad ettiquette.

Just glad to see you're not as full of yourself as the rest of us here. But we tolerate anybody, even the intolerable.

Mike’s Monsters

There it is. Unless things changed, it doesn't sound like he's been on set with Ridley according to his own words. Still would genuinely love to see a reel or something featuring all the work he's done in production. It's cool to see industry folk in here.

He neglected to mention that he's also an aspiring screenwriter.

I feel like Fede is capable of bringing back the deleted eggmorphing aspect of the Xenomorph.

I don't see his style of horror matching well with the Queen/hive aspects of the Xeno that were introduced in Aliens.

Fede and his team are capable of doing incredible and terrifying pratical effects, so an eggmorphing sequence would suit nicely with their strengths.

Eal

It's also a way for them to do something 'different' without having to invent anything new per se.

EDIT: I guess the 'new' thing would be working the black-goo-is-a-payload-concept into the eggmorphing.

I kind of feel like everyone is thinking too "fandom" with it, and he'll go more for something like Isolation where at least on-screen, that aspect is dodged entirely and it's all about the aesthetics and mood of big scary monsters. Probably lots of huggers though. Personally I've got my fingers crossed that he'll steal that one bit from Berserker where a few dozen huggers all swarm out of an elevator at once, but I suspect even that's too fanboyish a request.

PortugueseXeno

I wish, either Fede's movie or Noah Hawley's TV series would finally say it out loud that the Xenomorph (the perfect organism) is capable of adapting to any type of envirenment and situation.

The hive/queen caste, the process of taking the traits of its host, pathogen, the eggmorphing and hell, perhaps something new are all potential evolutionary chains of the Xenomorph depending on its current envirement.

But you are right, the eggmorphing theory is too "fan-servicey", so i won't get my hopes too high.

Still, my greatest wish for the franchise is to have a scene similar to Berserk's Eclipse but with Xenomorphjs instead of the demonic apostles.

I miss the psycho-sexual Gigeresque nature and horror of the Xenomorph, since that is its most unique aspect that was lost in the sequels.

For being a fan-favorite deleted scene, you'd logically then think eggmorphing would show up more often in media tie-in novels and the EU but it really doesn't outside of Prototype.

It's less of fan-service and more about well...making the Alien actually threatening to the human species. An Alien without a queen, if we accept Cameron's queen as gospel and reject eggmorphing as pure fanon, is pretty neutered and ineffective reproduction-wise: After all, if there are no other aliens around, and all it can do is cocoon people to a wall and wait for a queen to hopefully be born to maybe lay an egg near them...that's very ineffective and non-menacing.

No, I agree. I'm just not convinced Fede will use either established method. For example, the Texas Chainsaw film he co-wrote and produced really just takes the broad idea of the thing and does it's own version of it all. Evil Dead is an outright remake and it still mixes the general outline and a few nostalgic moments with an otherwise fresh setup.

Logical and makes sense. Just wonder how close he is to Evil Dead or Alien as series. I know that his entries were pretty good (so I've been told)but never have seen them myself.

I hated Don't Breathe but really enjoyed both Evil Dead and TCM (2022), so personally I have cautious optimism about him doing more franchise work.

I love Evil Dead 2013 (even more than the original two) and i really like Don't Breathe.

I didn't watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 and from the looks of it, that movie seems to be really despised everywhere.

But at the end of the day, Fede wrote and directed Evil Dead and Don't Breathe, while his contributions to TCM were simply as a writer and a producer.

I think fede put more effort into the movies that he personally directed, instead of the ones where he produced and wrote.

Directing is like raising a child, your baby, while producing is more like babysitting some random kid hahahah.

That is how i see it.
