Does anyone think she is the wife/mother of the hunters which would explain why she is never in a scene with them and also how she'd be considered a lead as her family are the first 'victims'?

Canada isn't Siberia Hicks, it's rather nice in the summer/fall. Especially on the West Coast (ie. Vancouver).      Nice job though!
