I don't remember Isolation retconning anything, in fact, it changes nothing notable, the fact Amanda Ripley did or did not encounter an Alien, changes nothing about Aliens SE or Alien³ SE, I think it's ultimately incorrect to state otherwise.

Oh baloney, Amanda Ripley going off on Alien hunting adventures is a retcon; others discovering the derelict and spreading Aliens around before Aliens is a retcon. Saying otherwise is just trying to have your cake and eat it.

Yes but none of that occurs during Isolation, the Alien does not spread beyond Sevastopol Station, Amanda Ripley still passes away regardless far as we know. Blackout, Defiance, Resistance and Rescue change that yes- but Blackout's just alright, and half of Defiance's alright.

All of that happens during Isolation ??? Aliens spread to Sevastopol and you spend the game trying to defeat the Alien while looking for the flight recorder.

Yes with Amanda Ripley found at the closure, Sevastopol's gone, Alien's gone and nothing's retroactively changed. Apart from perhaps the personal message portion of Ellen Ripley's last report. Also of course the Nostromo's recovered crew logs.

So things are changed.

The continuity is changed.

Retroactively.

Like a ... Retcon or something.

Only not, changed whatsoever.
Because nothing contradicts such ideas in Aliens or Alien³ anyway.
It's addition, not alteration.

I feel like you're arguing in bad faith simply to defend trashing retcons while maintaining your adoration for something that is absolutely a retcon.

It is fine if you feel as such.
But again, it's not alteration of anything in Aliens or Alien³ or indeed Alien.
It's addition, just as the idea of Ripley having a kid's one.

Isn't TCF a retcon too?

In a manner of speaking.  'The Company' trying to get their hands on the Aliens, while they already possess the Aliens.

These things depend on how credibly they're told.

I never saw a problem with mixing and matching whatever you like best, and just enjoying the content.

Nobody goes to hell or jail if you refuse to believe some established or altered timeline in a fictional universe.

It's addition, just as the idea of Ripley having a kid's one.
Adding to a thing alters it. Ripley having a daughter is also a retcon - it's retroactively adding historical information to her character in Alien. Saying Ripley's daughter went on a great Alien killing scavenger hunt in space is retroactively adding information to Aliens and the series.

Attempting to retcon the movies does result in a lot of garbage - but also some great stuff. Just like adding new things often results in garbage, or great stuff. It's almost like the retcon aspect isn't the fundamental issue.
