Ok, through seeing both the R-Rated, Population, and the Greenband trailer for AVP-R, I can honestly say those two minute trailers were better than the enitre first AVP movie and give me much needed hope for the movie. Now I know most of you are going to say, "The trailers for AVP were great and were action packed..blah..blah...blah." The trailers for AVP were decieving, and further more they made the film look like something its not and we can all agree with that. You have to be careful in what your looking for in the trailers because they show the overall image being depicted for the film and if the directors are on track. The trailers for AVP were action packed...and thats all they were...that's great for an action movie..... The trailers released for AVPR were dark and gritty portraying how the directors were sticking to the roots of the previous alien and predator films. We also from the start could be more critical on the director of AVP, Paul Anderson, who peviously before directing AVP made horrible movies bashing other franchises aswell. The Strauses' have never directed any other movie so we can't judge them and if they plan on becoming directors for movies in the future they (if they are smart) will try extrmemly hard to do a great job creating this movie so the fans and critics will be pleased or atleast satisfied. Paul Anderson had nothing to lose, people already knew he wasn't a great director, and look he's still directing bad movies. One of the reasons us fans are espicially skeptical about this movie is because AVP was such a dissapointment. Think, if AVP was good or hadn't even come out; would we be bashing this movie that bad? If you compare what we've seen in the trailers and the details surrounding this movie and compare it to the other Alien/Predator movies (except AVP), you will realize this movie is on track and these ambitious directors are trying hard to please us fans after the dissapointment AVP was. This movie may never be as good as the first alien or predator but it looks like it can atleast be a worthy AVP movie serving justice to the books, games, and comics in the AVP universe.

One of the reasons people are skeptical are the signs that even though this may be better than AVP, some residual trend is hard to break: the lowering of standards to a typical horror or scifi flick. Both genres have sections that love the lowest common denominators. AVP immediately felt like it had elements of a cheap horror film though to me.

...especially if its made money. Thats a new fanbase. Thats where the worry is imo.

Agreed, lets see if they can make this a good movie both the fans and general audience like instead of trying to make cash on a cheap rip-off film that film that fox likes...

He was also a music video and commercial director, just like the Strause Brothers.

Which just goes to prove that even if they're awesome directors as well, Fox could completely f**k things over regardless.

yeah the fate of the franchise is in the brothers hands..well atleast the fate of the AVP movies are in their hands....

...though regardless how this movie ends up, if it makes bank, fox will release an AVP 3 four years later in 2012

How do we anal AVP-R...? Oh wait, there's a letter missing.

Anyways, I think this might work really well. But my trepedations are still strong as to the outcome. The movies the Bros. have been attached to don't sit well with me, and I'm putting a lot of faith in their ability to make a good film.

Alien 3 was Fincher's first film too...

And the comparison fallacies continue... ::)

David Fincher is and always was a gifted director filming Alien3 (an Alien movie, not a crossover one) as his first feature... And even with the constant meddling and castrating interference from the studio, he delivered an amazing movie, filmed brilliantly and with a killer score by Elliot Goldenthal, with whom he worked closely...

So, comparing a gifted director from other times with the recent batch of VFX specialists-turned-directors is a fallacy in itself...

People are not comparable, not by a long shot... David Fincher is the last gifted director I have seen in a long while and this comparison is silly...

The Bros. have a LONG way to go before they can be even compared to David... Alien3, Seven, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, all masterpieces... So there is a trend in David Fincher's work... What about the Bros., with a debut feature film as a popcorn crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises...? I wouldn't even risk comparing an Alien3 movie with an AVP one...That is just plain silly...

It is like comparing Scream with Scary Movie, which is a ripoff of Scream...comical ripoff...

AVP is exactly the same compared with the Alien and Predator movies, so no comparison is reasonable...

And from what I have seen so far, AVPR will never be likened to Alien3, not even by a long shot...

Hopefully, the Bros. will prove me wrong... They better, for the franchise's sake...

Just don't compare the incomparable... That's never a good idea, even though I can understand the common links... But that commercial background is practically where the comparisons end regarding them... ;)

How utterly stupid.  There is no reason not to draw a comparison between Fincher and the Brothers.  You like Fincher?  That's just fine and dandy, but how exactly could you have known that four months before Alien 3, his first film, was released?

Do you even know what the word fallacy means?   ::)
