Michael Bishop is the last of the Weyland Bloodline.

At the age of just 21, Charles Bishop Weyland graduated from Harvard with an M.B.A., and following his father's death, he inherited the family's satellite mapping company – Weyland Industries. Under the young Weyland's supervision, the family business grew to be the largest satellite systems operation in the world within a decade.

Peter Weyland was born October 1, 1990.

C.B.W was considered the foremost financial supporter of cutting-edge scientific research in the world. Weyland's plans for pushing the boundaries of human endeavour did not stop there, however, and he intended to establish mankind's first lunar base in the Sea of Tranquillity within forty years.

Weyland's business success was offset by personal misfortune when he was diagnosed with advanced bronchogenic carcinoma — lung cancer — and told that the affliction would be terminal. Owing to his status as the figurehead of Weyland Industries, Weyland concealed this illness from the public. Days after his 14th birthday, Peter Weyland is granted a Method Patent for a synthetic trachea constructed entirely of synthetically-engineered stem cells in an attempt to save his father. But at around the same time, 3 October 2004, Weyland Industries Satellite PS-12 detected a heat bloom beneath the Antarctic island of Bouvetøya, which revealed an ancient pyramid complex buried deep beneath the ice. Charles decided that he didn't have the time for the operation and risk the discovery falling in to competitor hands and so quickly assembled an expedition to investigate the discovery. Here he died. (Now I have a better understanding of why Peter is so afraid of Death)

8 years later Peter Weyland founded the eponymous Weyland Corporation using his inherited assets and the groundwork is father layed out before him with Weyland Industries. In 2015 the first major achievement of Weyland Corporation was the installation of solar panels that align and move in Earth's orbital plane but at an axial tilt. This is the first successfully industrialized space mission of the Weyland Corporation. It makes sense that this is the first achievement with the assets of Weyland Industries, it being primarily a satellite company.

In 2031, Luna Terraforming began on Luna with plans for multiple settlements. Peter finally completed Charles' dream to establish mankind's first lunar base.

In 2035 Weyland Corp opened several new offices across the globe expanding corporate presence, one of which was in Antarctica. Perhaps an attempt to rediscover Charles' find of 2004?

2057, Meredith Vickers is born making her approximately 34 during the events of Prometheus. If considering Michael Bishop a descendant of Charles, we'd have to assume that Vickers had a child at some point. Whether it was male or female it likely took the Vickers last name, but after Peter and Vickers were lost to the Prometheus expedition it's likely that higher ups at Weyland Corporation or a shadow organization within took possession of this child and brought it up to be a powerful and secretive member of the company. Maybe they gave the child the last name Bishop in an attempt to keep the true identity secret or maybe this name wasn't used until Michael Bishop was born in 2127. For arguements sake lets say Vickers had a child in 2090 (the year before the Prometheus left Earth). This would make the child of Vickers age 37 when they became the parents to Michael.

Not much is known about Michael Bishop's early life except that sometime before 2179, he was employed at Weyland-Yutani as a synthetic component designer. During this time, he designed several synthetics including the eponymous Bishop series, which he modelled on his own appearance. This is quite mysterious and hints at something going on behind closed doors. Creating an android modelled on your own appearance is such a Weyland thing to do and you'd have to have a large amount of power within the company to do something like that if you weren't a Weyland. By 2179 he had assumed a senior position within the company's bio-weapons division and was tasked in acquiring a Xenomorph specimen - the company's ultimate goal.

Michael Bishop died in 2194, following complications from surgery. AVP (2010) is set in approximately 2210, not long after Michael's death. This tells me that soon after Michael's death Karl Bishop Weyland was created using advanced technology to endow him with the memories of previous Weylands, including those of Charles, Michael and likely Peter.

This makes Michael Bishop the last true Weyland bloodline member yet the legacy is carried on with Karl.

(In my opinion, so as not to start a canon war.)

Or he's an unrelated droid designer.

Perhaps. But which explanation is more interesting and explains the similarities in appearance between Charles and Michael?

"AvP is irrelevant to the Alien franchise" covers it neatly and suits me fine.

Even if it wasn't, it doesn't need an explanation any more than Jerry Lambert and Bill Hudson need to be explained.

I kinda like to think Jerry to be an ancestor of Hudson's. I mean he was constantly cracking jokes in an attempt to impress the women around him so I'm sure he would have scored a few one night stands in his life. Perhaps he didn't even know he had a child.

And the line eventually ended on C deck of an interstellar tug.

Perfect example of an only child.
