Q
Yay or nay?

For me its a nay. I doubt they have any centralized authority like a elected goverment or a king or something similiar. I always thought of them as a bunch of individual nomadic clans of related or likeminded predators roaming the galaxy. The clans don't seem to be big enough to have a standing military and every predator seems to be a warrior anyway.

Also they seem to be more individualistic fighters than fighters that form a unit that is greater than the sum of it's parts like soldiers do.
A military squad of predators for me feels like trying to make a wolf pack out of tigers.

Of course this all assumes that the hunt is a way of life for them and not only rich dentist preds on safari  :P
I mean if they have dentist preds, they propably will have soldier preds, banker preds etc.

What are your thoughts on a predator military?

I tend the think of their structure in the same way that you described.  Since they're clan based, I wouldn't think their civilization is centralized enough to have a military or governing body.  I'd prefer it if their clans were kept independent of each other, only linked by their shared traditions and way of being.  I wouldn't mind, however, if they had shared emissaries/scientists or enforcers though - some of the media has touched on these positions and I don't find the roles all too offensive.

I’m okay with it. In fact, the topic comes up in the comic book ‘AvP: Duel’, and the video game AvP: Extinction.

I don't remember it in Duel. Duel was also the first appearance of the Predalien ,right? I know it was in Extinction. Propably some of my least favorite unit designs in the game  ;D

In Duel, the Predators use this big honking shoulder-mounted launcher thing to shoot down the Marines' dropship. I doubt that was meant for hunting prey. :P

Oh right, i remember it now. At least not if they want any trophy afterwards :P
I am totally on bord with weapons that they do not use for hunting but are reserved for more bigger scale fights. Anti-air or -armor weapons and so on.
I am just not sold on soldier preds.

In that regard I think I kinda agree - military tech, without necessarily a dedicated military force.

That does beg the question how to react to a threat too powerful for a Pred clan to handle, engineers being the prime candidate.

If the Predators do have a military I wonder what their IQ threshold is. I think the US army's is around 85.

Probably the way they did in AvP Extinction - they break out the specialists with the crazy shit.

This or back-up from other clans if they absolutely have to engage the threat. Like hey, there is this big threat that is to much to handle on our own. Join us in our fight and win glory and bragging rights when we overcome it.

If not, I think they would just avoid it alltogether. They like a challenge but I don't think they fight fights they have no way of winning if there is a way out.
And if they are nomadic, they would have nothing to lose when they just back off. No land, no infrastructure etc.

Nay.

But if they had to defend the homeworld, I could see all the Yautja clans coming together for a common cause. I'd visualize their clans much like the interesting tribe system featured in "Black Panther" except without a king, maybe just a council that will meet only if a call for concern demands it. They could notify each other like the "Lord of the Rings" beacons of Gondor, mountain top fires lit alerting that assistance was needed. All other times, the Yautja clans just keep to themselves.

It's cool just thinking about it.  ;D

Good comparision with the clans of Black Panther. Can also imagine them joining forces to defend places that hold singificance for their entire race. A home world, or if they don't have one anymore sacred sites or something like that.

It is cool. Now i wish i had made a thread to speculate about predator society  :P

In my own universe, I see the Predators as we have people on earth....hear me out.

On earth we are separated by countries/states. I imagine Predators are separated by planets, moons, whatever have you (As I see multiple Predator worlds and then being more expansive).

None two Clans are alike, maybe similar, but not exactly the same. I imagine there are large clans, almost like empires with their own caste system as we saw in AVP. There are probably loners, small clans (P2), misfits  (Predators), and a variety of other Yautja - Some being Rebels (BadBloods or Space Pirates).

The point is I believe all these options exist simultaneously and they aren't subject to one homeworld but rather a complex Yautja society all varying from each other, much as the people of this planet are all human but none two cultures are exactly alike and even deeper than that, within a specific culture none two persons are alike either--same goes for (my interpretation) Yautja.

Hearing "Military predators" instantly brings NECA's "Armored Borg" Predator to mind.
I'm not against it, but I doubt it'd be quite as uniform as say the USCM.
