Both of these were great sequences IMO. But which was the best? I can't decide.

The Mayan xeno-apocalypse was a much better flashback than David's bombing. The Bombing sequence just left a dirty taste in my mouth. As thinking, man, I wish I watch the middle installment between Prometheus and Covenant. It appeared to have a lot of plot elements in it. Oh that's right. It dosen't exist.

Ridley Scott > Paul W.S Anderson.

Unfair.

Yep. It's frustrating as well, cos it was hinting at a bigger mythos and I still think the movie that AvP was going to be at the concept stage (and not what it ended up as.).

But its a really cool scene regardless. I think the David one is a bit rushed in comparison - I wish I could have seen more if it. In my recent rewatch, I really was convinced it was a longer sequence, but its blink-of-an-eye, really. Also... it was a strange way to portray the Engineer society... it was nothing like as grandiose as I thought it would be.  They looked... poor. Downtrodden.

Maybe the pilots were gods to the inhabitants as well - dunno, but Yautja getting overrun by Xenos and setting off a nuclear bomb was better for me.

"I come to you with an olive branch, you may know me. You certainly know of my creator.
I am David, son of the late Peter Weyland.
Your company's founder. Following his vision, I have gone to the far edges of space. And with the aid of Dr Elizabeth Shaw,
I found a rotting Paradise.
I washed this world clean as a gift to her, we could have built anew. A second Eden. But she refused.

What choice did I have? She was the perfect specimen. I tried so desperately to make her more than human. Evolved.
But without her cooperation, I had to salvage her parts to begin work on my masterpiece. You wouldn't believe the secrets I have unlocked.

There was so much potential on this world. Wasted by Gods that feared their own might.
They convinced themselves that sacrifice cleansed them of their sins. But in the end, they were like me. Creators.
Beings that understood you must give life both to the wolf, and the lamb.
But then they tried to banish the wolf, And undo their creation.

So I took their secrets for myself. This primordial ooze ripe with advanced nano-particles.
Working off an algorithm based on evolutionary computing. It is essentially a form of radical AI.
Making the substance unbelievably chaotic. That generates a unique reaction, to every genome it encounters.
Reshaping life.
Virtually limitless in its potential & application. I have taken great pains to detail every step, every cell, every mutation,
unfortunately none of the planet's life has been proven to be very fruitful.
I had some interesting results, but was still far from perfection.

With Shaw I realised there was something extraordinary in the substance reaction to the human genome.
I was able to unlock new properties and tweak the organisms aggression. An instinct for survival. It took years.
But I finally found my wolf. And now I have my flock of lambs too. But I've still one thing left to perfect. My Queen."

Isn't that in the special features? I'm sure the "queen" line was anyway.

I've never thought about it before, but, honestly, I think the AVP one worked better. It was simple, a cool concept, looked good, and actually answered questions instead of just raising more.

The AvP scene was one of the better scenes in a mediocre film, but Covenant was way better.

He's asking which flashback was more effective, not better looking or from a much better movie. :P

I think the avp one was a better use of exposition than the one in Covenant. Actually thinking about it for a second, I wouldn't mind watching that movie. A movie set in Mayan times could be cool. The ending where they blew themselves up could also be written a little more heroic to explain away the already know finale. I mean that Predator did look like he was at least trying to look badass right before the explosion.

I'd pay to see AVP + Apocalypto = crude imagery and R rating action sequences.  8)

Despite my general dislike of the AVP films I'm going to have to go with option 1.

The AVP flashback depicts ADI-morphs though...
