Take it you're not watching 'Westworld', then... ;)

I m watching Westworld... there are some nice ideas I like.
I like stories about robots and philosophical exploration of their nature,
but more so the nature of their creators.  ;D

It could be really cool if this film opened with a scene similar to the opening of PROMETHEUS with the Engineers seeding life with the goo, only this time its Weyland and the goo is white and brings David 8 to life. They could even use the same close ups of the goo infusing within the veins of David instead of the Engineer and then the TITLE appears.
As for Weyland and David - maybe WEYLAN survived?! Maybe Shaw put david's head on Weyland's body? Maybe David is trying to put his head on Weyland's body?

Well David's been programmed to give WEYLAND immortality, no?

OMG you guys Weyland is the one in the Pilot Suit in ALIEN, it's sooo obvious now.  ;)

Maybe it will only be viral material and later bonus on Blu Ray.

Yeah.  This is my thoughts as well.  Like the 2023 Ted Talk we got for 'PROMETHEUS' where the younger Weyland presented some of the themes that were present in the movie but not really integral to the story or plot.  I'd say we'll see this younger Weyland once again, discussing the virtues of his new android technology in viral marketing format, essentially, a sequence thematically related to the content of the movie but existing completely outside the scope and framework of the movie itself.

Out of all the recent news concerning ALIEN:COVENANT (be it a glimpse of young, deformed  'neomorphs', or a bust of an 'adult' deformed head, or the new 'eggs', or the new 'facehugger)...one of the things that I'm most pleased about is the fact that Guy Pearce looks likely to actually appear in the movie without the 'old Weyland' makeup this time around!  ;D

For a long time, there was no guarantee that Noomi's character would make any sort of appearance in this follow-up, and the fact that Pearce is back too (however briefly), is great news to me - whether either of them are seen in a 'flashback', or 'holographic recording', or 'memory implant'...or any other scenario even.  And the description of 'young' Weyland's possible involvement with 'switching' on 'David 8' at the start of the movie sounds excellent.

While it remains quite a re-watchable movie for me due to certain things,I'll always despair about certain badly-judged moments that litter PROMETHEUS - one of them being the lack of any 'young Weyland' footage being incorporated into the movie to offset the 'old makeup' that Guy Pearce ended up wearing throughout!

I'm so pleased that audiences will finally get a glimpse of Guy's 'younger' self onscreen this time around, considering how good he was in the excellent 'viral clip' that Ridley's son (Luke Scott) filmed.

I've always wished that even some of that footage had been incorporated into the movie in some way (even as a 'flashback' or showing on one of the ship's screens, for instance), as it would have really added some extra gravitas about his character to the proceedings.

Although I have a differently-edited version of my own in mind sometime, I only re-watch agent9's 'Special Edition' version these days...due to it including a lot of the deleted scenes I like - especially the 'young Weyland' TEDTalk sequence to kick things off.

I'm so glad that ALIEN:COVENANT will finally feature Guy as he actually looks...but I'll always stick with a version of the original movie which opens with his monologue included, to juxtapose with his 'older' appearance later on - in fact, while I lay a lot of the blame about certain aspects of PROMETHEUS on Damon Lindelof, it seems that he was instrumental in devising that whole sequence...so thanks for that.  And well done Luke Scott.  I only wish that the makers had included some of it in the actual movie to begin with.

Here's a good link about what Lindelof had to say about that whole scene - blog.ted.com/writing-a-tedtalk-from-the-future-q-a-with-damon-lindelof/

oops, that TEDTalk link was wrong, it should have been this - blog.ted.com/writing-a-tedtalk-from-thefuture-q-a-with-damon-lindelof/

Hmmm, turns out I'd typed that TEDTalk article link correctly the first time - not sure why it won't link directly, so just re-type my first attempt yourselves, if interested.

An obvious conclusion:
We... are the GODS now!

Perfect Organism: "I wonder if we will see a resurrected young Peter Weyland at some point in the future. Perhaps that is David's mission?"

The only way David could resurrect Peter is either through using his blood or time travel. However I feel that it is best to just have Peter come back as dreams or flashbacks. Maybe an android Peter would be interesting.

I'm not saying it would be a good idea, but one of the themes of Prometheus was the idea of eternal life.  That is what Weyland was looking for.  You don't need time travel or blood samples to do something interesting with that.  Maybe the Engineers have some other goo that brings dead things back to life?  It would verge on cheesy, but if done well, I could imagine a young Weyland rising up from where the old Weyland died, but then eventually changing into something hideous..

When I read the title I was worried it was a bit of Prometheus material / online material edited out of Prometheus that has been slapped onto the beginning of Covenant.

Who knows?

I think Fassbenders acting did all the explaining we need why David is like he is, so I'd rather see the screen time used for something else.

Was it 10 mins or so that was squandered on the elders/engineers sequence in Prometheus? I would have liked more of a Shaw going for funding backstory and assembling the crew. The underwater sequence with splitting cells etc... that looked too computer generated, took us away from the movie and I think that whole "message" could have been conveyed quicker

Its good that they keep with tradition in covenant and we have the Weyland link - lets face it - the whole franchise is intertwined with Weyland corp. I just don't think David needs any more explaining at this point than Ash did.

Sounds like a candidate for a deleted scene once they start trimming the movie down for running time.

Love this news. There's a rehash of Prometheus first 30 mins on youtube that fits this in, and that I thought was so much better and made so much more sense. I must say after seeing this rehash, I was able to finally start to like it. Shame that they haven't done it for the whole film. More younger Guy Pearce please, I loved this strong Weyland in prime of life.

Do you have a link?

Yeah, I'd be interested in that. I always thoguht the young Weyland idea was cut before they even filmed it.

Or are you referring to the TED 2023 promo film?
