I'd like to create a small collection of original AVP2 / PH maps adapted for 2016 era.





is there any tutorials that you could advise me?
what tools should I have?

Hello,

There exist no way to export things from DEdit.
You can import stuff (.obj and .lta) but not export them.
And everything is proprietary engine so there's no hope of someone making a small software to uncompile .dat or .ed files.

Just remake everything from A to Z. AVP2 maps aren't that complexe.

Sometime ago I've tried to create a tool for conversion AVP2 DAT files into LTA fromat, which can be imported back to DEdit. I've managed to parse and read some good stuff from DAT files, but not all, because there is no documentation.

1. Geometry of the world read from PhysicsBSP, so some brushes will be lost (visible, but non-solid, I assume)
2. Objects should work
3. Each poly now a brush, because there is no simple way to combine polies into brushes.
4. Brushes should be NoSnap, because Processor.exe removes unnecessary polies when compiles map into DAT format
5. No original grouping / nodes
6. WorldModels not fully supported (multi-textured models)
7. Portals not supported
8. Bugs  ;D
9. Decreased FPS on recompiled maps. Maybe due to 3 or leaks, or both, dunno.

we can start from letter Z
The letter comes from the Phoenician Phoenician zayin zayin.svg: its name comes from the analogy with the neighboring eta and theta. From it derives the Z of the Latin alphabet, which, in Italian, has both deaf ruling [ʦ] that sound [ʣ].

Indeed, but then you gonna learn what time means.
AVP2 maps are pretty easy already.
It took me about 4 days to entirely remake dm_alley on Unreal Engine 3.
It takes probably 4 days to just scratch the surface of how to decompile properly a dat file.

It's not a question of possibility but of worth.
If your idea is portability, just open 3DS Max or Maya and remake the map. They could be exported anywhere as a .fbx file then.
It will take much much much less time than figuring out how to export the geometry of a Dat / ed file properly in a friendly format with no error.

But then I'm just saying  ::)

but its so dammed comeplex !

I would try to do a simple skin drone AVP2 thing but do not know where to start
any tip?
