Anyone ever get AVP2 working on Linux? I really want to play this game again, but I don't use windows right now.

Run the game via 'WINE'

Thanks x-M-x. I have tried wine, but when I start the game I get a blank screen. I hit escape then it goes back to the desktop, but its in a low resolution, and the only way to change it is to log out then log back in. I've tried downloading the dx9 with this command:

I don't know if its a directx issue or not. The game doesn't install DirectX for some reason. It never gives me the option, even though I am installing it in wine.

Try the other method (copy the avp2 game files from your WINDOWS machine to Linux) - Assume you have one? then run it via wine.

That's another method.

Tank you x-M-x and Lucifero for the advice, and the links. I got it to work, but for some reason when I enable sound from the intro menu (alien queen popup), that's when it happens. I disabled everything, then went and enabled options one by one, and so far I am going to see if it is sound or music. One way or another, it doesn't seem to like sound. Is there anything I have to install in Wine to make my sound work? I read through the whole post you gave me, and am glad to have that information in case other problems occur. I am also glad I actually got the game running. All I need to do now is find a way to enable sound and get the multiplayer patch/fix. It would also be nice to have a 'no CD' fix. Then I'll be rockin' AVP 2 >:D

UPDATE: It seems to be the music. When I enable music I get the black screen. Sound OK, music, no.

Visit AVPNATION - http://avpnation.com/

Scroll down, they have a 'no cd crack' for avp2, that could be used under linux via wine.

I hope you manage to solve the problem of sound
unfortunately for pach official multiplayer you'll still have to wait.
I hope not forever

Thanks guys. Any news on the Game Ranger option? I just read about it over at AVP unknown. Some reason it doesn't want to load in wine. Otherwise, what is the official news on MP?

If you installed GameRanger on a windows machine then copy the directory/folder to Linux then run the gameranger.exe via wine it should work with no issues (well... give it a try?  :P)

then you can host/join avp2 servers with no problems.
