Alien: Covenant Podcast - AvPGalaxy Podcast #31

Our Alien: Covenant podcast is now online! We mentioned in our last episode of the AvPGalaxy podcast that we hadn’t intended to do a 31st episode this year but we would do one if something big happened. Something big happened – Alien: Covenant was announced.

And so we recorded an Alien: Covenant podcast (which you can download here). This was recorded around the beginning of December so it does miss out on some of the more recent announcements such as Katherine Waterson being cast and Ridley Scott confirmed that the Aliens would be making an appearance in Alien: Covenant.

In the Alien: Covenant Podcast we discuss Michael Fassbender’s return as multiple Davids.

In the Alien: Covenant podcast RidgeTop, Xenomorphine and I discuss the news about Alien: Covenant available at the time and hypothesize about what that might mean for the movie.

We talk about the brief synopsis that was announced and about the news that Michael Fassbender is returning as multiple incarnations of David: "Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

Howdy Hicks! I guess traffic is a little slow with the holidays, but I had a listen to Podcast 31. I think you, Ridgetop and Xenomorphine did a fine job covering the salient points. As is the case with Prometheus, I want to be optimistic about Covenant. I want it to be a great movie, and a great Alien movie. But because of Prometheus, I'm waiting to see. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out David 8 created the Xenomorph as we know it, any more than it would surprise me to learn that Shaw is actually the space jockey on the derelict on LV-426. Unfortunately, these sorts of cheap, easy answers tie everything up into a nice, neat package with a big red bow on top. And that seems to be the goal of all this.

I liked the bit about Ridley having access to Giger but now not able to use him.

I like the remark because it also reflects of an earlier comment on how many people were expecting Prometheus to be good . If this is a chance with covenant to do things over as an alien prequel then they better get this right.

Shevvie, who we have on the podcast occasionally, messaged me and said it was my fault if this ended up coming to pass! xD I seriously hope that is not the way they take the film. I will be so disappointed if David ends up making the Alien.

Haha! I'm sure Shevvie was pulling your leg on that. If Scott & Co intend David to engineer the Xeno, they decided that long ago. Totally agree, but maybe there's some way to spin it that it turns out really cool. Who knows what darkness lurks in the minds of these writers!

Just an FYI but I'm putting the Spaiht's script back to February. Whilst I was editing this one, it occurred to me we'd had a few too many recently that took pot shots at Prometheus so I wanted a bit of a break from it.

Next one should be interesting though - what we love that other people seem to hate.
