How do you know the Red's didn't win on the Homeworld?  :P They just haven't been removed from there yet so everyone is still dealing with the old strain.

Besides, I did enjoy the novelization's version of them where they said the change in tone was just so subtle that no-one would be able to notice and not a full on red like in the comics. But it was only done in the comic to make it so obvious.

I always assumed that once the queen was killed, they basically lost all organization and were picked off by their opponents.  Then again, since the Mother Alien was killed soon after, the Blacks fell apart quickly as well.

And I'm not a fan of the subtle shade at all.  It makes sense in some way, but it just would look as cool.

Perfect-Organism

I'm cautiously optimistic about what comes next from DH.  There've been let downs in the past, but the recent series was pretty good.  Fun to read several times anyway...

I wonder if this is strictly Aliens and Prometheus, or if somehow Predator will be announced as well.

There's no indication it'll be Alien or Prometheus as it stands. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough though!

It makes complete sense for a subtle shade.

But I do agree - I loved seeing the Red strain.

A new comic called Aliens: Defiance has been announced at the panel: Set between the first two films, it follows an injured Colonial Marine named Zula Hendricks who breaks out of her confines to mount a new attack on the Aliens.

Interview with the writer and artist here: http://www.newsarama.com/26247-classic-aliens-action-survival-horror-promised-in-new-aliens-defiance-ongoing.html

So they're basically doing Colonial Marines the way it should have been done back in the day. I like that it's set early in the chronology, and that it is more of a stand-alone thing. This is definitely exciting!

Interesting, but I'm hoping they aren't implying Weyland-Yutani are commanding Colonial Marines.

Some of the terminology is also wrong. If Weyland-Yutani owns these 'combat synthetics' (and it seems weird to not have specialised robotic platforms designed for combat, rather than giving a humanoid design the ability to shoot conventional arms), then, by definition, they aren't mercenaries. They're not hired and wouldn't have any interest in money.

Also:

QuoteWhere Aliens kind of made being a soldier in space exciting with all the "Hoo-rah" stuff and pulse rifles, and kind of robbed the creatures of what made them so horrifying in Alien, this goes "No, this is what being a soldier in this world would really be like..." and brings the guns without reducing the creatures to fodder.

Makes me think this guy hasn't watched 'Aliens' in a very long while. :) The whole message of the story was that first contact made them go from bravado to pant-shitting and hating they had to be in that situation. In fact, it was only Hudson who was being "hoo-ra", as he puts it. The rest were just being, at best, confidently cautious.

Yeah, Vasquez had her one-liner, but it was immediately shot down by Ripley.

Over all, the synopsis is quite interesting (although, I'm wondering why spinal surgery isn't being represented as more advanced). Could do without the Amanda Ripley cameo, but if it's trivial it shouldn't matter much.

Aaaand I may have just discovered a huge spoiler. Don't peek if you want to go in totally blind. Seriously.
Spoiler
I was on Tristan Jones' twitter, and saw this convo:

So the "second part" is set sometime else, and may(?) feature Ripley. Also exciting!

You can also find some good examples of Jones' art on his Tumblr. He has some good Alien stuff on there, none of it seemingly from Defiance, though.

Not jumping down your throat on this one, but when I said "kinda" it was a generalized comment. There's a reason "ALIENS" was more successful as a toyline than ALIEN and even had a proposed animated series -- you remember more lines from ALIENS because it's written that way -- regardless of Vietnam analogy. The overall tone of the film -- overall being the key word -- is very much a hoo-ra thing, even if the characters weren't overtly so.

As I said, for me, this is ALIENS via ALIEN, though I guess more accurately as someone here put it COLONIAL MARINES via ALIEN. Not that that has anything to do with the story, obviously. Hopefully you'll all remember to pre-order at your comic shops so we can keep this running as long as we can because, man, Brian's got some amazing stuff up his sleeve!

Holy crap, I didn't know Tristan Jones was on Galaxy forums! O_O

Sweet! Just in time for the 30th Anniversary!

Mr. Clemens

Welcome, sir!

Looking forward to this. Though I'll be waiting for the collected edition, because I just prefer things that way. :)

Lonely Universe

Oh man, this guy's art reminds me of Killian Plunkett's from Labyrinth, & that's a very good thing.

Sounds sweet!
