I know I sound like an idiot, but can someone tell me how to install the redux mod? The fact that it has 2 parts is really confusing me.

Now I'm crashing right after the Species Score, destroying my progress. I'll have to download Mad Max RW's profile, I guess.

Yes, I have the same problem. Just download any 100% profile, MMRW included his profile like you said, so you just have to select your level after every completed mission

There's also a tool out lurking out there called ProfileED which allows you to modify the progress of your own profile.

Is it true that MMRW used other people's work without permission?

I don't think so. For the models at least. I believe that all models are being done by him, besides those ported from other AvP games of course. I don't know about the sounds though.

I know him from the moddb, madmaxmovies, carmageddon and the steam forums. Pretty decent guy, huge Aliens and Mad Max fan. I don't see why he would get banned.
