Julia Holter - Ekstasis
Scott Walker - Bish Bosch
Oren Ambarchi, Jim O'Rourke & Keiji Haino - Imikuzushi

Jessica Bailiff - At the Down-Turned Jagged Rim of the Sky
Chairlift - Something
Peaking Lights - Lucifer
Grizzly Bear - Shields
Tame Impala - Lonerism
Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do

Last year wasn't great for my tastes (for release of my knowledge), I found 2011 was much better, so all I can really think of that were consistently awesome and not a one-trick albums were Handsome Moves by The Peach Kings and Vows by Kimbra. And Vows was technically released in 2011 (NZ & AU).

Lol u serious. I listen to music.

Favourite albums this year would be

Adele21, assuming it did actually come out last year, I think it was early 2012 or possibly 2111, who knows
MOS Chillout Sessions IV
MOS House Chillout Session 2

2012 was a good year in club and all things related. Mainstream? Oh sorry, I don't pay attention to the little fellas.

That came out over two years ago. Personally I can't stand most of Adele's studio material, I think she sounds like a frightened cat, only with less emotion. I'll grant that she's a tremendous live performer though, and was a perfect fit for the Bond song.

My favourite album of 2012 was Silversun Pickups' fifth release and third LP, Neck Of The Woods. Musically I think they're pretty much perfection - characterful basslines, dynamic drumming, atmospheric and occasionally strident guitars; keyboard experimentalism's given more prominence this time around too. My only criticism is that I don't particularly connect with them lyrically, but there aren't many bands not featuring Trent Reznor with which I do.

And speaking of Reznor, I think I've already found my favourite for 2013 in How To Destroy Angels' first LP, Welcome Oblivion. Ostensibly spacey and soothing, but on examination there's an apocalyptically-tinged subtext about where we've come from as a species and where we're going. This video captures the vibe pretty well:

It's not really an album of singles though, like most NIN releases the magic's in the way the tracks hang together as a musical narrative. The entire thing's streaming on Pitchfork at the moment:

Im just tired of hipster crap, metalcore/emo and shit pop music. Which is pretty much all music has been for the last 7 years.  You get the odd release here and there which stands out a bit. Other issue is bands cant really afford to record a decent SOUNDING album now either. Cheap nasty sounding digital production.

Depends on your definition of "digital production", but I guess you mostly refer to "mainstream music". "Hipster crap" - what does that mean? The word hipster unncessarily bears negative connotations within itself, what is "hipster crap" to you?

To me what you described is what is happening within mainstream music industry, but there is music out there, I assure you. Just don't sit idly there and expect it to bite you in the ass to garner your attention, because it will never happen. The mainstream music industry is too stubborn to let that materialize. You have to become an active listener / seeker of music or else you will be stuck with a mindset of a person who - wrongly by the way - thinks there is nothing out there or everything in music had already been done.

digital production is just the cheap sound of recordings now. Alot of artists wont even use real amplifiers. Theyll use applications that generate pretend amp tones (which sound like shit i think).

everything is pro tools too perfect. Thats fine for electronic music, electronic music has always been rigid because thats the point, machine driven music. But unless its a hybrid band like Nine Inch Nails, i dont wanna hear my rock drummers have their drums cut n pasted into perfectly quantised takes.

I am an avid searcher of music, i just think the quality of most music is considerably low in comparison to artists of previous decades.

I tend to find bands put out good singles but lack in album quality.

Few tunes within the last month that have been half decent, but no other songs ive heard by these artists yet are any good

I spose this was a good album of 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWzJhkrZm5Y#ws but its not the easiest of listens.... the follow up album is also considerably weaker.
