Hope I have the money to buy this, always loved these kinds of books. :)

I wonder why there's only one tie-in book? Obviously I don't want anything that isn't serious, and certainly not any kind of fast food promotion.

Maybe a definitive 'Making Of Prometheus' as opposed to The Art Of?

LarsVader

A good making-of on a bluray/dvd could be sufficient.

Don't know how big the merch market is for Prometheus.
I personally would like happy-meal spacejockeys, just for the fun of it.
But I doubt that. Depends on the pg rating?

Tron:Legacy for example had an awfull art-of book and the making-of book has been cancelled.
The extras on the home media releases where ..ehm... let's say scarce.
And I recently found out that all the cool behind the scenes stuff has been released in the shape of an iPad-app!
This thing is über cool: storyboards, model-turnarounds and hundreds of concept-art pieces.
Short: This app should have been a book or a disc-bonus.
And we all know what happens to all the stuff when disney decides to take it offline.

And Tron got an "the-full-story-app" instead of a novelisation.

As cool as the stuff in the app is I hope the marketing for Prometheus will be a little less blindly futuristic in it's aproach.

I don't recall anyone saying that WON'T happen...
From your own post,

Quotethis lavish book, showcasing stunning production design art and behind the scenes photos, will be the only tie-in publishing to this eagerly awaited film."

To be fair, that is only up-to-and-including the film's release...if it's as GOOD as I believe it will be, there WILL be more.

Much like the original film.

(...and a lot of those will be cash-in crap...like the original...)

MrSpaceJockey

No more tie-in publishing does not include tie-in toys, games, etc, so arguing that would be irrelevant.  And we already know Hot Toys is making Prometheus figures.

A solid idea, Alien prequel or not.

Space Jockey King

Only if they could reveal inside the book :P

This being the only tie-in would mean no novelisation, no comic books?

Hmmm. Chris Warner hinted at Dark Horse maybe doing something for the movie. It has been a few months since I spoke to him though.

Why would Dark Horse do anything? It's obviously not an Alien movie.

Corporal Hicks

Yes. Obviously nothing to do with Alien.

I know, tell me about it!  That mysterious croissant shaped craft, that seated "telescope" object and a company called Weyland Corp; all completely original ideas, which have absolutely no connections to Alien whatsoever!

Gigerapparition

'Only movie tie-in' - I sincerely hope there'll be much more than this and the
DVD/blu-ray/soundtrack. I love these 'The Art Of...' books, already having the 'Bond' and Avatar'
ones, but they don't really go in depth. Yes, I know the extras on the DVD/blu-ray will have all that,
but I like to have a large book to hold and not a remote, y'know? I want to read a novelisation as well
as numerous other books and yes, as somebody mentioned, a 'Metal Hurlant' or 'Heavy Metal' version
of this and a Giger art contribution special would be a dream for me. The expected scope of this film
demands a lot of peripheral reading merchandise.

Pete Script

IMDB have an article up claiming there will be a link to Prometheus in Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Haven't seen a mention on this awesome forum yet.
