Help with Multiplayer

I apologize if this question has been posted before but i have never had much luck with searching for the post i want. I want to play AVP 2 Multiplayer but it says the server is down. How do i play multiplayer? I know there's a patch or mod that can let me do it i just dont know what it is called.
