It is a damn shame that they didn't allow "Mr. Black" to keep its mask off longer. The creature design is quite impressive on its own (not compared to P1's design). It looks menacing and brutal, which makes sense for a totally different breed of monster.
It was a
senseless decision to have Black's mask on during the final fight with Royce. If they really wanted to stay true to the original, they would have understood how the visual of Man vs Monster can impact a Predator movie's climax. It's a critical component in my opinion.
There are a lot of things they could have done to make these "Super" Predators feel like true upgrades. As it stands, throwing in a clone/imitation of the original Predator and allowing Mr Black to kill it onscreen was nowhere near enough. Some of the choices they made were for the simple minded masses out there.
I'll admit it; I'm just bitching about some of the wasted potential. I'll never understand why they never let us get a good look at "Mr Black's" face without its mask on. Maybe they had no faith in the new design and feared fanboy backlash. Who knows.
